Well Reported and Well Said....
[Read the article: From East to West and back again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well reported Mr. Leonard. More importantly, well said, Camille! The literature available regarding the exploitation resulting from globalization is astounding. To think that a tweak or two will solve the problem is not realistic. All anyone has to do is look at South America to see the results of unchecked globalization. Additionally, it might be a good idea to take a look at what is happening on our own shores. The H-1B program is full of exploitation (of the imported worker and the worker replaced by them) and only getting worse.

Disf'inggruntled playing the racist card
[Read the article: Destination: Baltimore]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Disf'inggruntled, stop playing the racist card. I get sick and tired of far-lefties (I'm a moderate-left) accusing any white person who says something about race of being a racist and then turning around and saying something racist about white people. No Name Given is simply pointing out their observations and those observations aren't far off the mark.
I lived in Baltimore for years and would have stayed had a new neighbor not started insisting that the neighborhood was a "black" neighborhood and harassing the white residents to move out. This was coupled with an increase in property crime and property destruction. A racially mixed and peaceful neighborhood soon became a nightmare for anyone who did not share this woman's view. If the police were called to investigate a crime or stop vandalism, this woman emerged from her house screaming that it was a "black" neighborhood and that she was tired of the "racist white people and the racist police." Eventually, we moved out of this woman's personal war zone.
Now, the part you won't want to hear; my situation is very common in Baltimore. I know many good people who moved out for similar reasons. These are people who lived in Baltimore for years, decades even, and most of them invested heavily in the fight for diversity and equality for all races, most especially African-Americans. However, when you spend years of your life defending others against racism, you're not likely to accept it when it's directed at you. Racism, in any form, directed at anyone, is wrong and I will not accept it directed at me any more than I would allow it to be directed at you. I suppose that makes me a racist?

Goodbye Left - Hello Middle, and Merry Christmas to all!
[Read the article: Don't like Christmas? Get a life]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, all these comments claiming some type of stereotyping, even racism, into the simplist of sentiment? All I hear anymore is constant accusation of prejudice and racism, most often leveled at people who would never tolerate, let alone commit such an act. It seems no one has anything better to do anymore. All the real racists are hiding in the hills and the burbs and would never even read a site like this, so the accusations are flung at the innocent. I'm sick of it. The left has gone as nutty as the right and I'm headed for the middle. The rest of you stay here and play the prejudice card until you are all racists and have nothing else to do but hate each other, no matter what race or religion you belong to.
Merry Christmas. As for the New Year...Good Night and Good Luck!

More Playing the Race Card
[Read the article: Joe Biden's Obama drama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm really getting tired of the race card. No white person in this country can say anything about anyone (be it an insult or compliment) without some group shouting racism. Meanwhile, in LA, Mexican gangs murder blacks as part of an effort to take over neighborhoods, and the news barely covers it. We've lost sight of what is important here!
For years I have vehemently resisted the idea that perceived racism is used as a crutch and accusations of racism are used for the power they have to destroy opposition. I'm finding it harder and harder to deny the kernel of truth in those assertions. Next I expect to hear that anyone who does not vote for Barack Obama is a bigot, rather than that they might question his qualification for the job.
Yeah, I know, my comments only prove that I'm a racist.
