For example, people who believe that they're luckless embrace the moment when the car sprays them with water from the gutter. They recount that moment. They tell and retell it. Likewise, there are cultural narratives. In your example, you observed work that is narrated as women's and work that is narrated as men's, but the reality is much more fluid. That's very, very cool. I have a story to share too. When my mom leaves her husband, she bakes a dish and puts a little label on it, so that he'll know how to reheat it. I think that's pathetic. He's so confined by gender roles that he might as well live in a crib. Likewise, as I've stated in other threads, I think women who can't turn a wrench are equally pathetic.
