Original article: Losing her religion

I know how she feels.

Fundies have led to my loss of faith. I no longer believe. Rather, I believe that nearly no one believes. You can see this ubiquitous loss of faith in fundies' actions.

The Pope lives in a palace while people starve, as do televagelists. Alleged Christians hurry by homeless people, divorce and remarry, fornicate, hoard, gossip, judge, and then say, "Hey, hey, hey! We have the magic words!!! All we have to say is, 'Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior.' I worship Him, you know. That's all he wants: our worship."

Jesus Christ, they make Jesus Christ sound like Paris Hilton, craving attention, and the "magic words" obliterate Jesus's assertion that He is "the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through (Him)." How many "believers" live the way Jesus lived? It isn't for lack of opportunity. Live a life without hoarding and coveting and judging and you won't just look like one of those homeless people. You'll be homeless. Christians don't follow Jesus's way, therefore they don't believe.

Joel Osteen's wife, after sitting her pampered ass in first class, should sue Joel Osteen for shaken faith.

@ Asehpe

Nice post. We are all contradictory creatures, taking and giving.

When I was younger and walking along a sidewalk, I sometimes realized, "These other people don't know me, don't give a shit about me, and likely don't even see me."

I should go back to remembering that. We're all as self-absorbed as the main character in a movie, surrounded by ancillary characters.

@ Asehpe

I'm glad I made you laugh. I just wish that this time comedy wasn't rooted in truth.

How can anyone take George Bush's alleged faith seriously? Yet, millions do. He's a killer. He practiced in Texas with his death row executions and then went big time in the White House. By proxy, Bush voters are killers. As I've posted in the past, at least Lady MacBeth had the decency to see the blood on her hands. How many Bush voters have the decency to see the drip, drip, drip?

Now, one can make the case that abortion is killing, but if one doesn't assert one's faith, then the incongruency between alleged faith and killing a fetus isn't central. When one flaunts faith, as Bush and many other alleged Christians do, then the mass murders perpetuated by Bush and Bush voters negate all allegations of faith.

It's ev psych! Run!

Dismissing ev psych is dismissing that we're beasts.

Nope, no animals here, folks. That's 'cause we're people. We're special. So special. Our cultures short circuit our biology!

However, dismissing ev psych then allows women to one to blame...social systems. Cultures. Men.

My quibble with ev psych citing is that denying it is a special snowflake ideology and that denial is driven by agenda, which is to say, "Hey, hey, hey, guys! It's all your fault!"

I think we're mostly critters, but I do think that culture shapes our critterness. So, I point to the left and the right, like the scarecrow.

Hey, Salon! Hey, editors! Hey, Salon intern!

Please delete Doppelganger's post.

It's just an ad hom slathered with boasting, which means he's got nothin'.

@ essmeier

You're right. It is smoke and mirrors. Years ago, a model was interviewed about a particular photo shot and she shared how she had to don jeans so tight that it took 3 men to help her. Then, she couldn't stand, so they changed the shot to a reclining one.

Today, of course, they'd just photoshop her to be spidery thin.

Beam on, brother.

Which isn't to be confused with beaming up. The world needs people like you.

Hey, what's your name?

Your address?

Where's the link to your photo?

How about a link to a shot of your abs?

How about your ass, you ass?

Damn, there's no coward greater than one who posts and critiques someone else's photo and doesn't pony up theirs.

Why is Ms. Harding reading TMZ?

This reminds me of the Tommy Lee Jones MIB character reading the rags to determine what's happening, except when Mr. Jones did it, it was funny.

@ mamis62

Yep, yep, and yep. Salon readers already made the case for Ms. Torres being a likely cheater. So, why is Ms. Harding making the case for Ms. Torres's purity? It's because it's a fairy tale where women grow stronger and stronger and never die and win gold medals happily ever after.

Ms. Harding got her first "story" from TMZ. Her second is from a fairy tale collection. For her next post, she should hang around the backside of a pig. She won't have to wait long for her data.

Yep, it's just one more way to alter one's appearance.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 07:29 AM

It might be on its way, given that men and boys are already wearing...

...jewelry, coloring their hair, and shaping it with gads of product.

On the other hand, gender differentiation is PRECIOUS to people. Culture has got to keep something separate for facile sorting of boys and girls.

In the end, given that we're a herd animal, we'll wear whatever Bob and Sam, or Leah and Sara, are wearing.

Viva la conformity!
