Schilling is projecting (as we all do, always)...

...when he asserts that the ref shouldn't punish Garnett because the people paid to see Garnett. Schilling sees himself as Garnett, the sports star, and he wants to be without accountability, since people, after all, pay to see sports stars.

Of course, without boundaries, one is left with CalvinBall instead of basketball and baseball:

"Relax, liberals. You've already won."

That heading is written from a con's perspective.

"Relax, liberals. We've already won," is what a liberal would write.

I hate pants with messages across the ass.

It's so sexualizing. They force one to scan that person's ass.

Original article: The mother-daughter wars

This essay reminded me of Ms. Paglia's:

* the book plugs

* the superior feminism

* the self-insertive, Norman Mailerish journalism

If Madonna had been mentioned, I'd believe that it really was Ms. Paglia.

As far as Rebecca telling all that she wasn't hugged enough, that's probably so, but nothing new. Celebrity is a lot of work and nowadays, it seems Rebecca is parlaying her mom's labor into some lovin'.

I'm a fifth wave feminist.

I'd explain it, but no one beyond me can yet understand.

Pretty silly, eh, when one asserts superiority without proof?

Original article: The mother-daughter wars

Dancing on the Edge wrote something fine:

"I pray for compassion for all of us - for Rebecca and Alice Walker, and for my son and myself and my grandchildren and for all who are caught up in judgment and who have abandoned the effort it takes to engage in dialogue, perhaps out of fear, stubborness, and anger, for bringing understanding and connection."

@ mattcable

You wrote: "It's clear that a lot of self defined feminists here hate most women."

That's not clear to me, but since it's so clear to you, where's your proof?

Since only babies have skull bones, before they knit into a skull,

the Ron Paul guy must be talking about crushing baby skulls.

Yuck.

Have you gone to war, MaddieP?

Or do you leave it to others to bleed?

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:28 PM

@rufus

Yep, I think they want a third war. And a fourth. If McCain can manage it, he'll attack Mars. And the cons will call the whole thing, "The Intergalactic War on Total Terror." And they'll find a way to draft more working class folks, since enough aren't signing up to bleed, and, of course, they'll go to church on Sunday and just never you mind about turning the other cheek: they want oil and blood.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:40 PM

@ MaddieP, who wrote:

"And BTW we still have a voluntary armed services. That works for me."

You betcha. It works for all those Young Republicans in universities too. It works for Cheney's kids. And the Bush girls.

But hiding kids and kin didn't work for FDR, who made sure that his sons were placed in the line of fire.

Here's what I don't get: if Republicans are born again (and saved, saved, saved), why wouldn't they want to die? If you're saved, you get to cuddle with Jesus.

Unless, they're not sure about their story of being saved. And not sure about Jesus.

Which I know they're not, because you can't kill (war) and say that you believe in Jesus.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:42 PM

@ rufus

I think if you vote for a warmongerer, you should automatically be dropped into the draft. And then dropped into some war zone. I don't care if you're 85. If you want blood, then bleed.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:50 PM

Freedom is on the march.

And war is peace.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:56 PM

@ rufus11

Speaking of Limbaugh and his equally self-destructive ilk, they do remind me of the insane Hitler who wanted more war, more war, more war, and only came out of his bunker to pin some medals on the chests of boys with rifles who needn't yet shave.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 04:56 PM

Yes!

Congrats to these women and they should visit some red states, where divorce rates and Bush-voting are highest, and teach classes in fidelity.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 06:11 PM

Yes, Annieofthenorth

We are soiled. All of us here in the States.

Like the Japanese in the thirties, we have invaded to take raw materials.

Like the Soviets under Stalin, we have our gulags.

And like the Romans who tortured Jesus, we too torture.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 06:17 PM

I posted this idea in another thread, but it's worth repeating, I think:

Lots of alleged Christians voted for torture via Bush. Their rationalization is that if they don't torture, the terrorists will kill them. However, if you believe in Jesus and happy, happy, happy Heaven, why wouldn't you rush to the grave, especially given that the Bible says you ride the express elevator if you die for your faith(and the fundies frame this as Muslims versus Christians)? I can only conclude that the alleged Christians don't believe in Jesus and happy, happy, happy Heaven.

Thank you, totallyblase for this:

"...imagine Carl Rove with his hand in his trousers pleasuring himself...."

They probably are pale. And alone. I know the robot has cast Muslims are something other than human, as people who don't love their kids and aspire to autonomy. Of course, that's a lie. If Muslims were really so inhuman, he'd be in Iraq. Instead, he's at Salon. So, either he's a coward or a liar.

Likely both.

I watched some of the game last night.

I walked away at the start of the fourth quarter. It's become cartoonish. Professional wrestlingish. I once heard an author talk about a book he'd written about Division II and III basketball atheletes. The author loved the guys he'd profiled because they loved the game. They didn't need a Jordan "love of game" clause. They played away with no chance of "money for nothin' and chicks for free." I hate when players like LeBron and Kobe talk about "my guys." I hated when Jordan talked about "my supporting cast." I'm not so stupid that I need a team reduced to one player. I remember the starting five for the '69 Knicks. The '72 Lakers. And lots of other teams that were teams.

In 20 years, ask me who played for the '08 Cavs and I'm likely to say, "LeBron and his guys."

Is there a fix? Maybe. Probably. Money is more seductive than Brad Pitt.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 06:37 AM

BTW, nice analysis, King.

You reason well.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 08:49 AM

Bush regrets.

He regrets that he can't attack Iraq.

And North Korea.

And that he can't hold hands with the Saudis and walk off into the setting Sun and live happily ever after, forever and ever.

Original article: Kiss my ass

@ thingswesaid

So, you cast bleeding women out of cities?

You've given all you have to the poor and trust in God to provide?

You kill insolent kids?

Yep, you're not afraid. No room in you for fear. That's because you're bloated with hypocrisy
