that "shit" was one appearance of four appearances on that page. three made by others. one made by amanda. no one else was banned.
My point is that another way to encourage an intelligent conversation is for Joan Walsh to pursue a conversation.
When the authors of articles never respond to anyone in the comments, it sets up an elitist, one-way, we know more than you, we are better than you, (we are afraid of you!) atmosphere that encourages abuse.
feminists claim they have "reclaimed" bitch.
Sorry, but when 99.99999% of the world thinks that bitch is a slur, then the feminists haven't reclaimed it. But they give themselves permission to call each other a bitch, and somehow it makes it better.
But don't you dare call someone a bitch!
Personally, I think bitch, and ho, and the somehow safer biyatch, are all pretty goddamned horrible terms and I am appalled they are used on TV and radio.
But I also don't think that it was a real attempt at social commentary
This is a dubious statement. I mean, you can certainly think that, but do we really need more stricter definitions and more judgment on what is and what is not social commentary and therefore somehow acceptable.
Doesn't it suffice for you to say you thought there satire sucked without your having to add it really wasn't social commentary?
I note that Ms. Stringer used the "A" word in describing her team.
fart jokes.
Hogan's Heroes and The Producers made me realize that most Nazis were cute and lovable.
Even Pandagon had to (grudgingly) admit that Sarah Silverman's rape joke in the Aristocrats was funny. They got her back though by noting she sleeps with misogynist Jimmy Kimmel!
I am sorry, I don't get the connection between her enjoyment of spanking and domestic violence.
Am I confused here?
So actually it's just coincidence because today I've been in and out of meetings most of the day.
The sexy stunt could have dire consequences for the would-be lawyer.
If she applies for the New York State Bar this year, Dominguez could face tough questions from the Committee on Character and Fitness, which examines the personal character of future lawyers.
"It may have an effect. It's a possibility in the worst-case scenario that the person does not get admitted," a committee representative said.
Oh jeez, I certainly hope she doesn't get admitted. Can you imagine the sexual discrimination lawsuit?
She is employed for a legal activity and somehow that shows she has bad character?
Who has worse character, a lawyer that strips naked or lawyers that allow their system to fuck you over?
Speech is dangerous. It has the potential to harm. I think we need to set up a group of people to lay down the rules that all of us will abide by. What we can say. (What we can think.)
White folks cannot use the n word or say ho. African Americans can.
People can not make fun of obese people.
Rape jokes are not funny.
You must not call people morons or say they are crazy, because that makes fun of the mentally ill.
You can't make fun of Jews, Catholics, 7th Day Adventists, Muslims, Mormons, the Amish, or Jehovah Witnesses.
No making fun of hookers, whores, prostitutes, sex workers, or their johns.
No making fun of jocks or nerds.
No making fun of short people.
No making fun of asians or asian drivers. Or old people or old drivers.
No making fun of emos, goths, or preppies.
No making fun of gays, trannies, transvestites, shemales.
No making fun of people with 15 kids. No making fun of couples that are childless.
No making fun of small penises or huge vaginas.
No making fun of military intelligence, no making fun of bureaucrats, no making fun of lawyers, no making fun of blondes, no making fun of psychiatrists, no making fun of rabbis, preachers, nuns, or buddhists.
No making fun of doctors.
This stuff is not funny and it hurts people.
Books are dangerous, literature is dangerous, serious conversation is dangerous, Salon is dangerous, teh Intart00bs are dangerous, thought is dangerous.
Joan, it's all pretty fucking dangerous out there. And you really need to condemn it all, or else you are showing how you condone this sort of hateful harmful dangerous speech.
I look forward to a world of Harrison Bergeron and Fahrenheit 451 in society works together to ban harmful books and everyone is forced to where a radio blasting commercials and weird noises to make sure that everyone is equal and no one is different.
Do people really have a right not to have mean dumb ignorant things said about them?
If it's not threats of violence or incitements to violence, if it's not libel or slander, if its not creating a hostile work environment, if its just really really really mean, and maybe even bigoted,
Do people really have a right not to have that said about them?
Is it really helping women, or even all women, to suggest there is some right to stop mean words?
