Shooter sez it's not about the oil

Any apologies from these folks about "war for oil"? No. Didn't think so.

Normally I won't acknowledge this moron because he's merely a troll who doesn't research his ideas or opinions at all, and is therefore worthless to the conversation.

However, on this occasion, I needed to respond.

Not about oil, eh? The latest information I read says Iraq is still producing 1-2 million barrels of oil a day (I may be off, but the point is they are producing a not-insignificant amount). And yet, 5+ years after the initial invasion, are there STILL any metering devices on the pipelines? Or is the oil just "disappearing" after it's pumped out? Might want to look into that Shootster. You might do some research also into the previous backgrounds of George W. Bush, Dickhead Cheney, and Condi Rice......I'll bet you'll find some very interesting connections there. Research some of the interviews of soliders who've witnessed those unmetered oil wells. Look at what they say about where the oil is going.

I know, I know. Your assignment is not to learn or become intelligently conversant about these matters, it's only to harrass and distract. Tell Rush and Hannity's water-carriers that I said you're doing a fine job.

Ready with the checkbook

This so pisses me off. Let us know the particulars, Glenn, and I'll make another donation as soon as possible. I hope many others will follow suit.

In an era where feeling powerless to help create change is so rampant and crushing to those of us with a real conscious and love-of-country, campaigns such as these give us a place to make our voices heard and create pain for those ignoring us, and ignoring what is plainly the right thing to do.

Steny Hoyer tid bits.

Sorry if these have already been posted, but these are from Hoyer's own website, specifically, a speech he gave at Georgetown university.

"Let me be clear: There is not a person here who fails to recognize that our worst fear – the threat of a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack on the American homeland – would warrant extraordinary action on the part of our government to detect and disrupt it.

"However, this Administration has shown, time and again, little hesitation in willfully dispensing with procedural protections for our civil liberties and acceptable norms of behavior that the United States has long demanded that other nations abide by.

"The Administration’s tactics in a wide array of areas not only do violence to the rule of law, but leave this nation wide open to legitimate criticisms about employing double-standards and behaving hypocritically. And, they have not made us safer.

"The Administration’s unchecked violation of Americans’ civil liberties and accepted international norms of behavior do not serve our nation well. Indeed, they not only do violence to our values and constitutional principles, but also sully our reputation throughout the world and threaten to undermine the rule of law.

"In contrast, the RESTORE Act -- introduced by Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes – is a carefully crafted measure that gives our intelligence community the tools it needs to listen in on those who seek to harm us, while addressing concerns that the bill passed in August could authorize warrantless surveillance of Americans.

"Simply stated, it would be grossly irresponsible for Congress to grant blanket immunity for companies without even knowing whether their conduct was legal or not. And, importantly, this view is shared by the Chairman and Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Until we understand what legal authorities were used to justify the terrorist surveillance program, there does not appear to be any practicable way to include retroactive immunity in this bill.

"I am proud of the RESTORE Act. The bill provides the tools to protect Americans and reflects an understanding of the most basic concepts in our constitutional form of government: the proposition that we, indeed, are a nation of laws, and that our Founders deliberately designed our three branches to serve as a check and balance on each other.

Interview Yoo's students

I think it would be very illuminating to sample the opinions of Yoo's students to see what they think of his teachings. As we know, college student bodies tend to me overwhelmingly liberal leaning. Given their "pre-Yoo" teachings about civics, the Constitution, and the rule-of-law, it would make for a great post or radio/podcast interview to hear what some of them think.

Original article: The company we keep

use this in your Hoyer ads

Using the examples of Russia and Zimbabwe in your Hoyer-pointed ads with regard to the FISA/telecom amnesty legislation might be a good way for citizens to start realizing the real danger and radicalism going on here. Sure would make for an easy "creative design" phase of the ad campaign. Pictures of Mugabe, Putin, and a few images of civilians being detained and internet and phone images might have a greater effect than just straight-up bitching about Hoyer to the constituency.

@Glenn G

What kind of national exposure are we trying to create on this? Perhaps the money to ramp this up even further might come more easily if we can get someone like Olbermann on Countdown via Rachel Maddow to do a solid 5 minute rundown of this. Has Democracy Now run a story on this, or are they planning to?

Are you planning any appearances on syndicated radio or cable? Think you can get Walsh to give up her next appearance on Olbermann to allow you some face time?

I've always wondered why you don't appear on Countdown....seems to me you'd be a perfect guest in Keith's eyes on a range of issues...
