So why not campaign for that instead of throwing money away with capital-activism plans like Accountability Never or wasting time campaigning for some faux liberal candidate? Campaign for it! What if the netroots leading bloggers began that campaign? What if they asked us to go door to door and "canvass" for something like a general strike? Isn't that worth the try? What if they had used their collective platform to advocate for direct action instead of voting for the LOTE?
Not that I feel compelled to answer you, but:
1) I don't consider donating to Accountability Now to be "throwing money away" despite the fact I don't believe it will yield the long-term results I'm looking for. It is a good thing trying to get better, and I could after all, be wrong in my prognostications (and I'd love nothing more).
2) I did not campaign for Obama or any candidate in the past election, as I felt all of them (who were not marginalized by the MSM) sucked.
3) The idea for a national work stoppage is nothing new, but only recently have I come to the conclusion that it is one of the only real ways any substantive change will ever take place. These things have worked in other countries, but by far the largest obstacle is changing the mindset of Joe and Jolene SixPack, as decades of relentless MSM propaganda and consumerism have squelched the activist mentality of most people (see "Fat, Dumb, and Happy).
I have started a blog to discuss many of these issues, and, if this idea ever caught on with the "big" bloggers out there like Glenn, etc, I will be the first to volunteer in as large a capacity as I am capable of, given the fact I still have to put food on the table and help raise 3 kids.
4) I freely admit to not having the organizational skill set to successfully spearhead such a campaign, in addition to believing it would be beyond a Herculean effort to make happen in any meaningful way. Personally, I think more personal pain and suffering on a widespread basis will be needed before large numbers of US citizens will ever think seriously of taking to the streets and reclaiming their gov't from those who've stolen it from us.
5) Finally, you of all people have about zero credibility telling others what they should or should not be doing, given your penchant for constantly bitching up the comments section and tearing down everyone's efforts without ever making any substantial contributions yourself or offering up any concrete solutions to the issues raised. Why DO you even come here, indeed?
If anyone I knew around me cared or kept up with this stuff like I do via Glenn, I would bet them a C-note that somehow, someway, all of this "opposition" to Graham-Lieberman will magically evaporate and the bill will get passed.
It'll go something like this: Republicans want the $5 billion for IMF taken out, Dems don't. Dems want to kill the torture photo secrecy law. Republicans will say no to Dems demand, and Dems will act like the the worthless trash they are and pass the spending bill with the secrecy law entirely intact, or with some worthless change that really doesn't make the bill any less anti-democratic. It's the Harry Reid/Nancy Pelosi 3 "Bs" to Democratic governance--1) Bark, 2) Backtrack, and 3) Bail.
As always, I hope I'm wrong, but I know much better by now.
What an assclown. No doubt he'd be afraid to visit the Island of Misfit Toys due to the danger of him getting lead poisoning.
Keep exposing these frauds, Glenn. You're blog is just getting bigger and bigger. I'm seeing your name mentioned more and more, and that is all good.
We need a new YouTube channel: Tyranny TV, starring Glenn Greenwald. No doubt there would be an endless supply of programming material to choose from. Hell, maybe you could even get Shelly Roche from BreakTheMatrix.com to be your anchor. She's hot, she's an IT/media genius, into civil rights, and everything!
This is exactly the kind of media manipulation deconstruction we need to understand, magnify, and disseminate widely. It is extremely important to understand the forces behind the decisions being made by the MSM to remain corrupt, subservient, and derelict in their duties as an adversarial foil to the gov't. It is pretty obvious to those of us who are high information followers of this, but the vast majority of citizens have no clue this stuff is going on, and more importantly, how great an impact it has on political discourse, policy, and their own individual lives (like civil liberties).
In that vain, Glenn, have you made any attempts to contact Fred Hiatt or any of his staff and ask him/them to explain his decision to fire Froomkin? You've pretty clearly shown it could not be for legitimate business reasons. It would certainly be interesting to hear from him (ha, not likely!) or someone who works close to him to understand his reasoning. I know that's like getting the guy carrying "the football" to tell you the codes, but that in itself is worth investigation. After all, if the firing was legitimate, then it should be easy to justify. If it was personal, then he can say that, too, but I'm sure Froomkin will be asked for his side of that story.
Who is Fred's boss, and will he talk about it? If not, why not? Doing more to expose the "shadow media," like the "shadow banking" industry can only produce good results, if only incremental at first. Understanding the close, incestuous relationships between media management, corporate lobbyists, and our government overlords should speed the rotting-from-the-inside that is currently happening with our mainstream media as their credibility gets continually worn away by hard-working "blogulists" like yourself and so many others.
This is important. I hope you're able to follow the bread crumbs a little further into the woods.
