Honestly, the news of Barry Bonds juicing does not really send my heart into palpitations or anything of the sort. The news just helps to reaffirm the drastic physical change that Barry Bonds underwent over the last 6-8 years, growing from a *gasp* healthy-looking baseball player (David Wells, I'm staring at you) to a muscle-overloaded freakshow with a small bat, a shitty glove, and more sass than Paris Hilton and Star Jones combined. I mean I have suspicions about this for a while, so I already thought the 73-HR season was kind of bunk anyway.
I don't think that it is a penalty to the defense that the offense has to reset and scramble to get back into position with all of the lost time off of both the shot clock and the game clock, especially when those seconds are huge. If anything, it is a direct benefit to the defense in the game and helps to slow down this fast-break oriented basketball and takes to the fundamentals. The good teams are the ones who are talented enough to hold their ground and force a steal by being aggressive playing defense and knocking the ball into the backcourt, giving their team the ability to go on the break and get easier points. Making the game stop takes away the momentum from the defense and allows the offense, who was not protecting the ball or making crisp passes like they should have been, turn around and set their feet on DEFENSE?! The break in play alone takes the immediate advantage of the continuous play rule now in order and inherently takes away the momentum that could have been gained had they the ability to chase the ball. All I'm saying is that with the non backcourt violation rule in play now can reward good solid hustle on the basketball court and who doesn't love hustle, especially in college basketball?
I'm not particularly comfortable with the argument that because Al-Zarqawi is dead, a) the insurgency will die down and b) that this was a success for America. Al-Zarqawi's importance is greatly overstated. If anything, his death will just raise the question of "so what?" to so many Americans. Bush is trying to justify the continuation of this war on the back (sorry about that, he got hit real hard) of Zarqawi. The war is still a quagmire, and I don't want that to be forgotten.
I'm personally a fan of the all black look. My Baltimore Ravens wear the all black uniforms. It makes them look menacing and terrifying on the field. Plus, it's considerably better than their regular purple and white theme. Actually, question: what uniforms do you prefer, King?
I agree with you on the white socks look. Don't they have gold socks or all-black socks or something that looks better than something a high school team would wear?
Coming back to that high school look, what's your opinion on the new high school uniforms that the Wizards are wearing now? Black and gold with some stars on it. When I watched them lose to the Rockets last weekend, I thought for a second I was watching an rec league team playing one of those five-minute halftime games. I thought the NBA was classier than that. But then again, this is the team that has taken upon the non-threatening name of the Wizards from the Bullets in an attempt to quell the city's violence. We all saw how well that one worked out.
