Unfortunately, I don't believe that the Democrats were fooled by Bush Administration intelligence. I think they voted for this war because they were small-minded and frightened, and illogically intimidated by a president who was popular. If they had voted against the war, we would be impeaching George Bush right now.
Millions of Americans knew the war was wrong, months before the first shot was fired, and they weren't afraid to say so. Voting American troops into Iraq was the most weak-willed, shameful, and destructive display of political toadying since Ford pardoned Nixon. We can only hope it won't dismantle the party.
Yes, that first quarter touchdown was, ahem, "controversial." In fact, it led to a lot of screaming and thrown objects in my Trojan house, and continues to contribute to the wafting cloud of frustration in which I am going through my day. But I've had a night's sleep and chance to calm down, and I am beginning to accept that it was a game both teams (and their fans) can be proud of.
Regardless of whether or not Texas would have only been able to kick a field goal had that play been rescinded, USC had plenty of chances to win it. And they capitalized on most of those chances; that's why I love them (that and the fact that I graduated from USC). Leinart was stellar. White was downright cosmic. Bush was stupid, but redeemed himself with that epic dive. I feel more sorry for the guy than angry with him (although I'm a little angry.)
But Texas won it, as decisivly as they could in a game so full of bizarre officiating and incompetent clockery. If we, as USC fans, continue to dwell on that one touchdown, then our 2006s are all but ruined. I'm gradually accepting that we still lit it up last night, and our team will be justly feared for the forseeable future.
I live three blocks from the Buchanan Rd. Lacrosse house. I am the first to admit that Duke, and Durham, is beset from within by a alot of horrible shit. Crippling poverty vs. heartless wealth, pervasive racism, and a small but visible group of college students (found nationwide) who are just vile people.
But tonight a group of women, many of them black women, will represent Duke for the National Women's Basketball Championship. They are athletes too, and they speak for their school and their adoptive city just as loudly as any disgraced Lacrosse team.
...we really have to abandon sarcasm as a tool for fighting back against and exposing these hideous people. There is a difference between being snarky and being angry.
Ann Coulter is a disgusting, craven hybrid of drag queen, nazi, and Best-In-Show Afghan Hound. She is the standard bearer of every single thing wrong with this country, and her despicable comments deserve a stronger rebuttal than some half-assed jokes.
Not to sound humorless or anything. I'm just sitting at my desk, seething in anger.
Sorry. I'll go zen out on YouTube! now.
