The republicans have spent twenty years building the myth around that idiot that he was some sort of good president. Most of the messes we must now clean up now can be traced back to that dunce and his cronies.
Reagan is the second to last president anyone would want to emulate.
(BTW, Carter was a much better president than Raygus.)
Want some Truth about Rayguns and the Repuglicans:
-Carter (and especially Eisenhower) had much more to do with helping to end the cold war than Reagan. Everyone knows the real person who ended the cold war though was not an American, it was Gorbachev.
The right wing has tried for years to convince the media that Raygus should get credit because he was president at the time.
- Carter delt with and got us out of the first energy crisis. The repugs and Rayguns then went and destroyed the conservation initiatives and fuel efficiency standards setting us up once again to be OPEC's bitches.
- Carter brought the Iranian crises to an end and got the hostages back. With the active help of the Iranian fundamentalists, Rayguns was able to take some circumstantial credit because the fundamentalists in Iran held onto the hostages just long enough for Rayguns to get into office. Rayguns + Iranian fundamentalists, two peas in a pod.
- Rayguns and the right wing machine built Al quaeda by pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into Saudi Arabia and making the most hateful, crazy religious fundamentalists in that region filthy stinking rich.
Where do you think Bin Lauden got all his money?, from the US buying Saudi oil at inflated prices for decades, a phenomenon enabled by Rayguns and years of repuglicans.
-Rayguns started the despicable repuglican tradition of filling government agency posts with incompetents who are philisofically apposed to the departments they are supposed to managing.
Brownie was by no means the first, but the standard republican government official, incompetent and corrupt.
-Rayguns helped to start the deregulation stampede to make his buddies rich and ruin the US economy and industrial base.
Now who wants to be like Rayguns?
That was beutiful.
... for ANYTHING from the republicans is one of the few things about Obama that worried and still worries me.
Anyone who is a realist and has been watching in horrified fascination at the actions and rhetoric of the republicans since the last election would have concluded that the republicans are hell bent on becoming even more partisan, not less, than ever before.
It worked for them with Clinton, do everything in their power to make sure the Democratic president cannot succeed at anything... if it wrecks the US economy, so be it! If there is no scandal to distract the media, make one up! Their constituents that they care about (Sorry Joe, the almost plumber, Mitch McConnell doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you… unless you suddenly start printing money and send it to his campaign fund. You and others like you are just stooges, if you weren’t such asses I’d feel sorry for you.) are quite frankly rich and are not worried about a economic crises.
You want to know what the republicans will do over the next four years? Just ask yourself “what would Lee Atwater do”. If anyone doesn’t know who Atwater was you need to learn and learn fast because the republicans have been using his playbook with great success for decades, even after he publicly pleaded with them, on his death bed no less, to stop because it was harming the country.
If Obama didn’t know all this and more before taking the job he is guilty of massive naivety, something the real president of the United States cannot afford. On the other hand he may have known what was going to happen all along and is setting up the republicans for a biblical mid term ass whoop’n at the polls… I just hope it’s the latter and not the former.
P.S.(I cannot understand for the life a me why the republicans and most of the news media do not conclude that the republicans obvious plan to sabotage the stimulus bill is going to be anything but a disaster for them. It seems to me that they set Obama up for a win-win on this. He gets the stimulus, they labeled themselves partisan obstructionists. If the economy gets better Obama and the Democrats alone get the credit, if it does not the republican’s obstruction will be blamed.)
I've been seeing your posts on this site concerning "green" issues and electric car/efficiency articles for a long time now.
I have to finally speak up and call you out. Your responses are always overblown, contentious and totally unrealistic. So much so as to fit to a tee the stereotype of the "half-crazed enviro loon" that the right wing invented in order to make it easier to dismiss serious discussion of energy consumption, pollution and sustainable transportation sources.
Maybe your are a troll, maybe you just like to rant. If the latter I apologize.
Sustainable, and renewable energy is not a win – lose propositions as the right wing has bombastically claimed for years, you know “you don’t like coal, go freeze to death in the dark!”
With hard work and investment we can absolutely have very nice electric cars that are better than the internal combustion types we have now, we can get a great deal of our electricity for solar and wind, we can use cleaner and more efficient forms of fissile fuels (natural gas for instance), we can have clean (not just cleaner, but clean) air and water, we can reduce carbon emissions to required levels (I’m just not sure we can do it in time). And not only will we not be “freezing in the dark” our quality of life will improve measurably.
…oh yeah, we can have bicycle too ; )
