Franken will be an excellent upgrade to the congress.

He knows the issues and has consistantly been on the correct side of almost every political position for the last fifteen years.

That alone makes him miles better than ANY repuglican in congress.

GO Al.

The snakes eat their own.

Now if they can just get hold of their own tails and swallow the world would be a much better place.

Hey elephantboy

How's you're new job going carrying abound Palin's wardrobe?

Do they let you sleep in the house? Just wondering.

Oh, and God called me again and asked me to tell you.... "stop touching yourself... geezzz"

Original article: OPEC slashes supply

Thank you OPEC.

Even though you hate us and love our money you have taken the tough steps to get us off our oil addiction that our repuglican government has been unwilling to do.

If we can succeed in transforming the auto industry to electrics we might actually be able to produce all the oil we need domestically (which will still be significant).

No longer will you be able to go on spending sprees for nuclear bombs and chemical weapons.

No longer will you be able to pump billions into any terrorist group you think might want to kill westerners, or anyone else you want to kill that week.

No longer will you be able to define a popular foreign policy as one that is dead set on destroying your neighbors.

No longer will you be able to piss away the wealth of your nation on arms and murder while your own people go without.

No longer will the religious fanatics be the ones the people turn to, they will want actual, smart leaders that know how to run economies and stay out of perpetual wars.

Merry Christmas to you OPEC, may you drown in your oil.

If the incoming Bush administration had taken a similar tack instead of one of pure hubris.

The 9/11 attacks against New York city would most likely have been thwarted.

I like everything I see from this crowed so far. No, not every appointment is to my liking, but then again, I wasn't elected president.

A second, somewhat unoriginal thought.

This may be the first time in history that 70% of the population of the United States can look themselves in the mirror and say, "I could have done a better job than the outgoing president", with no hubris, but only regret in our words.

This is a big test for the Iraqi government.

The shoe thrower guy is giving them a perfect opportunity to get out of a very delicate situation and to come out looking like the "good guys" and not looking like they are complete lackeys of the Bush Administration.

If they do not realize this is a golden opportunity then they may be as ham fisted as the Bushies in the US.

The republicans will use every dirty trick in the book.

To make sure Obama has no victories. This is the same strategy they used against Clinton to kill health care reform.

They are completely willing to turn the US into a third world country in order to maintain what power they have left (see killing the US auto industry bailout by a handful of southern repuglican senators for the most recent example). They know if Obama saves the economy, implements universal health care and reinvents the US auto industry that no republican will be elected to any position of power in the US (including dogcatcher) for twenty years.

If it comes to it, the Democrats should use the repuglican's "nuclear option" to wipe out the inevitable republican filibusters. Under almost all conceivable scenarios this not a good move, only this time it may be required to keep the country from becoming a full blown banana republic.

If Obama believes for one second that his fig leaves to the republicans will result in bipartisan actions from the right he is a fool.... and we are all screwed.

I'm an Obama financial supporter.

You know, one of those "mysterious and dangerous" $100 donors.

Those folks at Change.gov do not speak for me or any other Democrats I know... and I know a lot of what the talking heads would call lefties. (I call us centrist)

Best letter of the year slackie O!

Slackie's letter reposted below:

"Single-payer versus beggar-thy-neighbor

One key plank missing in your Third Reconstruction is national healthcare. The real deal, single-payer, versus the bogus "mandatory private health insurance" program peddled by the Democrats misleadingly as "universal healthcare."

You want to level up, bring the whole country together, keep us from becoming a true banana republic? National healthcare has to be part of it. Nothing sets the First World apart from the Third more discernibly than national healthcare. Nothing is more conspicuous in its absence between America and its foreign allies.

It would help all Americans, North and South, enjoy improvements in their health and daily lives, and would take the onus of employer-funded healthcare away from the employers. A huge chunk of what is killing Detroit is employer-funded healthcare.

And in this era of $700+ billion bailouts, and $560+ billion Pentagon budgets, Medicare for All increasingly sounds like a bargain, making Americans healthier, happier, and more productive. Win. Win. Win.

Include that in your Third Reconstruction, and you've got something worthwhile (and best of all, the Congressional Republicans currently enjoying national healthcare themselves will have to argue against it for the people they're claiming to representing -- talk about a moral checkmate!) Americans should have the same healthcare their "representatives" enjoy.

Anyway, that's another vital way of undermining the South's banana republicanization of our country."

Original article: The economic Civil War

Hey Yubi

For your own benefit so you don't always come across as an idiot I'll attempt to educate you.

The civil war was fought over SLAVERY. In a long-standing attempt to rewrite history in a favorable tone to the south many have shouted that it was over STATE'S RIGHTS. To which I respond with the truth that yes, they are correct, the state's rights to own slaves. Those bad ol liberal northern states said you cannot have slaves... GD liberals!
