While I agree it is hugely spineless to not seat Franken if its because of Burris, but I want to point out that though the state canvassing board said Franken has more votes, the states Election commission hasn't ratified and signed off on the results. So technically Franken hasn't officially won.
Despite its apparent irrelevance, whats wrong with requiring networks, using public airwaves to provide opposing viewpoints?
I mean how can you make a stand against fairness? I understand that right-wing radio would feel threatened by it, but nonetheless, I don't see how you could make any kind of sensible argument that the Fairness Doctrine would be bad. Is there more to it I don't know? I admit I've never read the original doctrine.
It seems the Right can only hold the high-ground when fighting nazis. The spectrum of evil for the right-wing seems to be nazis and liberals. If the enemy is anything else, they got nothing.
On the upside, I don't think Sharpton is going to keep quiet the way Colmes did, and will challenge Hannity a lot more. On the downside, its Al Sharpton. I'm guessing his ability to be more vocal will hurt liberals more than Colmes' silence.
But you have to admit he'd be a fool to tip his hand before he takes office. My best hope is he's trying to lull his opponents into thinking hes a spineless fool. Being a Democrat, that should be easy. Unfortunately it could also be true.
Its just nauseating to think ONE black person was willing to stand up for denying a group of people a civil right.
Ask Private Lynch. Ask Pat Tillman's family. Ask the low ranking soldiers convicted for the abuses in Abu Ghraib, the ONLY soldiers convicted. Ask General Shinseki. Etc...
Did he just volunteer the statement or was he asked, and if asked, by who?
First of all HBO blacked out Bishop Robinson's prayer, and the Washington DC Gay Men's Chorus was neither introduced nor identified on screen. Kinda Cheney-esque if you ask me. Perhaps they were classified.
But really that is kinda of petty compared to my next and main point: Unless Bush/Cheney and their cabal are held accountable for their crimes, then it will always be their land. So we'll see, but we're not there yet.
I'm sure Lincoln would have been disgusted by the whole flag-pin affair more in the sense that it was a major issue that captivated our press and a large percentage of our population, rather than one being on Obama's lapel. I'd like to think that Lincoln would be more taken with Obama's race to actually pay much attention to his lapel pin.
"What do they have to do to make you all aware of what is happening?"
Slow down. What makes you think no one is aware of what is happening?
After 8 long years of getting everything wrong, Bush finally gets a clue and realizes no one wants him hanging around.
Ty for pointing that out. There is a whole article about the phony numbers over at MediaMatters.org
One glaring point when comparing the costs between Bush's bash 4 years ago and Obama's now, is that they are including the cost of all the security in Obama's total, BUT they did not include the cost of security when reporting Bush's cost.
Obviously I can't speak for Rosenkavalier but in my case its not anger at Obama but more concern over the celebratory feelings of others when so much is dreadfully wrong and nothing has actually been done yet. It smacks too much of a group of marks being setup for the sting.
No. I don't care what Obama thinks or says or agrees to. Its ONLY about what he actually does. Since he hasn't done anything yet, I feel the celebrating is just as uncalled for as you feel criticizing him is.
And I don't think I or Rosenkavalier actually criticized him.
What if Dems show some backbone and decide to... aww I guess its not such a big gamble after all.
Mr. Gregory's assertion that the press did its job during the Bush presidency is so at odds with reality it denotes either stupidity or willful ignorance. I'm guessing willful ignorance and I bet that his display of willful ignorance is what got him the job at MTP.
Either way it doesn't bode well for Obama. Look for the MSM to gleefully help the RNC/Right-wing de-legitimatize Obama's presidency as they treat every crackpot assertion and conspiracy theory as if it were credible news, using the "some are saying" straw-man, as their way of showing that they're doing their 'job'.
Heath ledgers joker was merely an impersonation of Jack Lemmon in "Some Like it Hot".
