I harbor hopes that many people who do not want to vote for a black man, who would never admit to voting for a black man, will in the privacy of the voting booth vote for Obama. A testament to Bush's presidency and McCain's ugly ugly hate-filled campaign.
Who didn't see this coming during the repub primaries? I laffed and laffed as they shot themselves in the foot as they fought to see who could be the most demeaning to hispanics and immigrants in general.
Same goes for people who feel sorry for McCain because of the way his campaign was run. He could change it. Just as Palin could stand up for herself if she chose.
These people are all making the real-time decisions, even if that decision is to acquiesce, to do what they think is best in order to win the election. Why should anyone feel sorry for them?
In fact I find it odd that given the way they've CHOSEN to run their campaign that any progressive (I'm looking at you Joan) could feel anything but disgust or anger towards them.
Equality doesn't only mean good things ya know!
Married men cheating with single women would create such a gap.
Frankly now-a-days if you have sex with your spouse its practically cheating. What would your girl/boy-toy say if they knew you were sleeping with your spouse?
His ambition to be president was stronger than his desire to do what was right. At every juncture of his campaign when faced with a choice between what he thought was right and what he thought would win him the presidency, he's chosen the latter. His shame and dishonor will stain his legacy.
No pity.
Journalists can only get access to McCain if they agree to put his interests ahead of their audiences.
With the deceptively cheery music that commercial chills the blood at the thought of a McCain presidency.
On message and the tone is perfect.
I thought they were all behind this whole black president thing!
The difference between the Palin hanging and the Obama hanging is that no national figure has been touring the country telling people that Palin is hiding his associations with terrorists and by extension hates America and that her victory is a threat to America and everything you own.
The difference is the Palin hanging reflects not at all upon the Obama campaign. The same cannot be said regarding the Obama hanging and the McCain campaign.
Rather than taking the opportunity to really genuinely connect with people, I felt the too slick production values and the emotionally charged musical strains made it seem like he was really trying to sell you a crappy product.
Tawana Brawley and Crystal Gail Mangum never admitted to making up their accusations so the comparisons fall apart right their. I'm sure had they at some point admitted that they'd made it up they'd have probably been charged. (Note, I'm not saying they weren't lying, just saying they never confessed)
Secondly, since Ashley Todd had attempted to change the course of the election through her actions I would say she belongs in a whole other category of lying sacks of shit.
While I do think this qualifies as a hate crime, against black people in general, I mean her goal was to damage the standing of black people in the public eye, I think that legally since there is no specific damaged party (the victim would be the imaginary attacker) I don't think charges would be brought.
However I would like to see an imaginative prosecutor bring charges that she attempted to influence the outcome of an election but it'd be too much of a stretch.
What should be obvious is that racists are perfectly capable of having true affection an admiration for a single black person (or minority of choice) while hating the group. Louis Armstrong wrote in his journal how much he hated white people who would come up to him and freely say that though they didn't like niggers, Louis was great. I'm sure their are many hardcore white racists would be happy to have any number of super athletes over to their houses for dinner, as long its not the night for their klan meeting.
Apply this to the election and I'm harboring hopes that we may see a reverse bradley effect where white people SAY they won't vote for a black guy but privately they will because just like the knew Michael Jordan was a god on the court, maybe Obama is the superstar that can help them keep their jobs.
