Original article: Thursday's campaign roundup

Would it be fair

To questions McCain's political skill by pointing out that his own legislation is broken?

Its not debubked

Cheney said it. Thats all thats needed to make it a fact. Saying debunked makes it sound like no one believes it anymore.

@ kufir77

Hey if we don't point fingers and look for blame, how will it be fixed or prevented in the future? Typical conservative thinking, take a tragedy and exploit it to attack liberals.

Re: Kristol

"you have to figure that either he knows exactly what he's talking about"

I would NEVER figure that.

Wasted efforts

Maybe the authors of the study should have spent their time looking for solutions rather than confirming whats already known.

Original article: PSAs in your panties?

I must have been misinformed...

I wouldn't have thought people who perform or advocate female genital mutilation looked inside the crotches of bikini's that often.

What about the free market?

For those who claim women are paid less due to women being less competitive or more risk averse I have to say that if women of equal experience are willing to work for less AND there isn't discrimination, why doesn't the market place reflect this with companies more consistently hiring female execs?

Release the Document in the international press

It was stated that the document was sent to international recipients whom the DoJ did not seek to retrieve said document from. Have these international agents release the document to the press.

Does it even matter anymore?

I know there are a lot of differences between McCain and Obama, differences that could materially affect peoples lives, long term in America.

But I can't help but feel that if Obama supports our govt letting corporations break the law and then immunize them, even before charges are brought, who cares? Nothing really matters to me after that. Our democracy is a now an open sham, and I should just count myself lucky I'm allowed to live with a modicum of freedom, if no actual privacy or representation, and hope I'm not killed by a crappy product. If this is what we get from someone like Obama then the excitement for what he represented is gone. Apathy returning.

Note: Still prefer him to HRC.

@ bernbart

"If you think Obama has moved to the center you were not paying attention."

"Frankly to base you whole decision to PUNISH Obama on his final FISA vote is outrageous and frankly very immature."

Sorry, I don't consider holding lawbreakers accountable to be a lefty position.

Some people see what the bush admin has done with the help of these corps to be a major constitutional/ethical crisis of our country. Do we stand for our constitution and our laws or do the powerful get to do what they want while small individuals get hammered?

For Obama to close his eyes and legislate letting these telco's off the hook for breaking the law, who also could have provided information/evidence on the administration's breaking of the law, he's admitting that regardless of policy differences, nothing is going to change. I won't withhold my vote to punish him, I'd withhold it out of apathy.

non-issue

one expert says 'yea' the other says 'nay' it goes to court, no judge is going to rule against McCain. If necessary the congress would pass an immediate bill rectifying the situation.

Repubs would fight to defend their guy, dems would fight to keep McCain the nominee.

A non-issue.

Friday, July 11, 2008 11:58 AM

@ PSMarc93

Different issue. The territory McCain was born in never became a state. I don't know the details but I'd bet when a place becomes a state its residents become naturalized. Could be wrong but either way, seperate issue. And a non-issue in either case.

About the Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

Uma Thurman naked riding in a clam shell. I think I became a man the first time I saw that. Good for boys on the cusp of puberty, it'll push 'em right over.

Lieberman knows

He knows he's getting booted either way next year if the dems increase their majority in the senate as they are likely to do. He knows his only real hope of maintaining any kind of power is if McCain wins and appoints him to something. So threats of punishment from the dems are pointless, his only hope is to back McCain at this point.

So?

Ok, so older terrorists are getting tired and want to put their feet up and have a beer and a knobber. What about the thousands of young enraged wanna-bes being created daily because of the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq? I don't think angry young men with access to explosives and warped views of their relationship to go are going to be a disappearing problem anytime soon.

Peet's logic is flawed. Despite the rest of her being oh so fine

From the article: "I know a lot of parents who secretly use as a justification, 'Well, enough other people are vaccinating, so therefore, we don't have to,'" writes Peet."

Double fail here.

1. If the justification is secret, how does she know? Sounds like she is operating out of an impression that that is what other parents think. Th classic straw-man strategy, make up your opponents argument, that plays to your strengths and then destroy that argument. h/t to the bush admin for doing this so much I learned about it.

2. So what? Even if true, other parent's decisions for how they choose to raise their kids are none of her business. ESPECIALLY if her kids are vaccinated. Does she really want to open a pandora's box where parents' decisions for WHAT THEY THINK IS BEST for their children are judged in a public arena? *shudder* where would it stop? I mean its not like parents who don't vaccinate are like "Haha fuck my kids! I hope they get ill!" No, these parents are doing, presumably, what they think is best. Let it go.
