Original article: More on the FISA debacle

6 of 1, half a dozen of the other

I've always maintained that what the Republicans accomplish through greed and malice, the Democrats accomplish through cowardice and incompetence.

Between the votes on the Iraq war and now this FISA thing, I feel sadly vindicated. I admit that after the '06 election, I was really keyed up about '08. Now I no longer really care about the '08 races.

Hope?

Our only hope is that Hillary's willingness to stab anyone in the back in her relentless pursuit of power will end up with her stabbing herself in the back.

How Accurate

Rove: "a brutal enemy who will kill the innocent for one purpose and that is to gain control of the Middle East"

I'm sure Rove came up with that line while looking into his mirror that morning.

Pot: Hello Kettle!

Kettle: Hiya Pot, what's up?

Pot: You're black!

Obvious Solution

If the (a big if) dems had balls, they'd steal the thunder and declare no biz in congress on 9/11.

The Democrat Betrayal

Any honest American knows what is important is oversight. Regardless of your position on the political spectrum, if you're an honest American you know that whoever is in charge, without oversight we're no longer really America. On many issues the intent of the framers of our constitution is often debated, yet it is manifestly clear they wanted oversight.

Everybody must answer to somebody. Indeed this is the very root of our founding father's motivation for their rebellion against England.

Bush himself isn't so shocking. He was anticipated. The founders of our country knew someone would attempt too much, grab for more power than was intended. They gave the congress all the tools they needed to reign in a rogue president. That being the case, the Democrats' abject failure to make a stand is unconscionable. This is the real betrayal of America. Ironic it should turn out that the Democrats really must 'hate America' and are 'traitors' if given the current circumstances they not only refuse to halt the Bush administration's madness, but mind-bogglingly seem to be giving it more power when he asks for it, because they are afraid of being called unpatriotic.

This is why the Democrats are so unpopular. How can you respect a group that held the hearings in which Alberto Gonzalez humiliated and disrespected them by lying, obfuscating and hiding behind the most transparent facade of incompetence, and does nothing about it? They've made their win in 2006 seem hollow and pointless. How many voters will go to the polls and think back on the last 2 years and conclude, "Well, that didn't make a difference."?

The Democrats bear the brunt of the hatred of the right AND the disgust of the left.

What I Think Will Happen

Nothing. I believe the pres. will honor his promise to Reid and eventually nominate someone unacceptable to Dems.

Certainly nothing could serve Bush better than to not only leave the post unfilled for the duration of his presidency, but to leave it unfilled in a way that keeps the congress bickering over it which also provides a nice distraction from Iraq.

All he need do is nominate someone qualified but obviously a bushie (yes I know that 'bushie' and 'qualified' are not usually found in one person in Bush's circle) sit back and watch congress fight about it, while he skates to the finish line, un-investigated.

I think it is reasonable to imagine the congress not beginning a serious investigation of the president while they are fighting over who will be the next AG.

Stop it, Glenn, you're killin me!

"One would hope, though not necessarily expect, that Harry Reid and company would treat that as the serious violation of their agreement that it would be and respond with full retaliation."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Well if you're going to lie...

You have to admit he couldn't have picked a better congress to lie to. Whether from republican complicity or democratic spinelessness, if you're going to commit a crime against the people, nows the time to do it!

I mean these people make it seem like lying under oath is totally the thing to do don't they?

Original article: What Larry Craig admitted

Wait a min!

I'm no legal expert but wouldn't his sentence have been predicated on his guilty plea, which is usually given 'unreservedly' and under oath?

I would think the judge that sentenced him would be interested in the Senator now claiming he is not guilty.

Unless the judge is a crony.

Tuesday, August 28, 2007 02:12 PM

Perjury? Contempt?

Shouldn't the DA or the Judge who I'm sure made it clear that pleading guilty must be done without reservation while under oath, and I'm sure took his guilty plea into account when determining the sentence, be interested in speaking to Sen. Craig again regarding his public denial of his guilt?

Original article: The straw man lives

Political Objective: Achieved!

Yes, the 9/11 attacks were carried out in order to achieve an objective. The STILL uncaptured Osama Bin Laden had hoped to incite America into a land war in the Middle East that would give his fighters the opportunity to fight American forces under conditions that would be optimal for them given our technological superiority, not unlike America's experience in Vietnam in the 1960's and 70's and the U.S.S.R.'s experience in Afghanistan in the 1980's.

I'm no foreign relations or poli-sci specialist but to my way of thinking second only to capturing the perpetrators I would have thought it important to make sure the aims of the attackers were NOT achieved. Seems like this would have been easy. Bin Laden's plan after all was only to lure America into repeating the biggest two foreign policy and military failures of the past 30 years. I mean, who'd be dumb enough to get mired in a land war against ideological and religious extremists AGAIN which also tragically would be justifying the attacks of 9/11 for our enemies?

Thanks to George Bush, Bin Laden has achieved the aims of the attacks on 9/11 with perhaps greater success then even he could have imagined.

Here's to George Bush, America's straw-man and Bin Laden's right-hand man.
