You know what though, I think many of HRC's hardcore supporters are just as offensive as Obama's but the thing is though the hate towards HRC from that small core doesn't really have a lot to do with Obama, in my opinion. Fair or not, a lot of people have really strong negative emotions towards HRC, and would probably be fanatical for any dem running against HRC.
Like me, can't stand her, but definitely not an Obama supporter. Never listened to a speech, don't know or care about his record. In the GE I'm for any dem over any repub, but til then, if I can take a swipe (always a legitimate swipe) I'll do it. Am I an asshole? ya probably, but what can I tell ya, I don't like her. And you know what, when the election began, I even forced myself to admit that many of the things I don't like about her are universal to all politicians (how many people are that fair?) but as time has gone on, and the race has been run, I really don't like her again. The point to note though is that I'm not an Obama fantatic. And I bet there are a lot like me. (amongst the small % that follow this stuff and care)
I got no prob with her being a girl. I'm very modern. Most of my bosses have been female in my life and they've definitely been better than the male bosses. I'm a strong feminist.
Have no emotional reaction to Bill as far as his presidency goes, though intellectually think he was one of the best presidents ever. After his presidency, I admit to getting quite emotional, missing him, whenever I hear him speak, then hear Bush speak.
Anyway, the reasons I had for not liking her before she was a candidate was first, after making that comment about not being a Tammy Wynette 'stand by your man' kinda woman, I was disappointed when she stood by her no good man. I'd have had a MUCH more positive reaction to her had I seen a video shot of Bill in his jammies banging on the Whitehouse door, "Let me in Hill, I'm sorry!" But I let that go when I realized that despite her apparent hypocrisy and willingness to put up with being globally humiliated in order to retain power, that really it was none of my business. Though I think had she divorced his punk ass, and ran for Senator has Hillary Rodham, I'd have been much more favorably disposed to her.
However as she ran I have been disappointed with her use of Bill in her campaign. I understand he has to support her, but it seems to me she's sacrificed his dignity as an ex-president to do so. She should have let him state his support initially, let him respond when asked about it, but other than that, let kept him out of it. Specifically his behavior in SC. I know there is a lot of debate about it but to ME, his comment re: Jesse Jackson was an incredibly insensitive comment that trivialized and marginalized the black vote.
As far as during the campaign, I do NOT believe her time as first-lady counts as presidential experience. Therefore I see her claim of experience as being a big misrepresentation.
Her claims of being 'tested' also ring very hollow for me, since all the attacks she's (unfairly I do admit) taken from the hardcore right-wing, never had to be addressed in the context of being a candidate in a race or even as an elected official. I mean when she was first-lady, she didn't have to respond to the media about them, or if she did, there was no real pressure or consequenc. The media would just report what she said out of respect for the first lady and not hammer her as if she were a candidate or an office holder. And as Senator of NY, it was never really an issue either as far as I know. Not really a red state. If she should make it to the election, she is going to be in a NEW untested position where (thanks to our ball-less, spineless, corrupt MSM) she will have to actually respond to the insane ramblings of the right-wing/swiftboat attack machine. So in total I think she's greatly misrepresented who she is as a candidate.
Anyway, add on to that her increasingly Bush-like behavior has the race has gone on:
The statements that defy known reality: "We're just warming up" after losing 11 races in a row. You know if you're gonna bullshit me, put some effort into it.
Obama campaign releases some fliers that attacked her positions on issues and she accuses him of Rove-like tactics, which is baffling since I though you were supposed to attack positions and issues. (yes I understand she disagrees with his characterizations of her positions)
Then following her accusing Obama of Rove-like tactics, she releases the 3-Am ad, which looked VERY republican-ish to me.
And the various instances of her campaign staff saying offensive things, only to have the campaign saying "they don't speak for the campaign."
Whew! that was like therapy! haha. Anyway, keep in mind, that I'm not saying Obama is all that. Like I said, I haven't watched a speech (I cant stand watching politicians speak.)
Also I do think Bush fucked up so much the next president is screwed no matter who it is. So I'm not too concerned with what they'll actually do in office.
Also I'll support any dem against any repub in the general.
