Original article: Quote of the day

Now that I think about it...

Maybe its not a statement about what Penn thinks about the health of her campaign. Perhaps, after that article in the Times that showed how much HRC has been paying her consultants, she decided to cut back. Penn is just saying, no money, no honey.

It's Worth The Nation

However the nation ain't worth what it used to be.

She should stay in.

The longer the Dems get to control the narrative, get to define themselves to the nation BEFORE the repub attack-machine revs into high gear, the better. As long as the Dem race is open, the right-wing/swiftboat attack machine has to hang back a bit.

My only concern is that IF HRC is the loser, she loses with grace. When she claims that she's 'just getting warmed up' she is embarrassing herself. Not only that but making such announcements that are at odds with reality, coupled with announcements that this is a 'war election' makes her look a little to Bush-y to me. Decrying Obama's attacks on her positions on issues as Rove-like, then launching her 3am add, again adds to her desperate, Bush-like character.

So stay in HRC, but PLEASE, run with grace and dignity.

@ Robert Franklin

Due to the proportional nature of the contests, even if HRC won all 4 contests but by small margins, she would only decrease Obama's delegate lead by a little. HRC needs double digit victories in OH and TX just to catch up. Not saying she CANT win the nomination, just saying we won't be talking about how she 'wrested the lead' today.

I got no problem with it, if...

If BOTH candidates comport themselves with dignity and grace, even more importantly, treat each other with dignity and grace and most importantly, the eventual loser, leaves the race with dignity and grace, I think dragging out the contest is good. Simply because the longer the Dems get to define themselves and control their own narrative, the less the impact will be when the right-wing/swiftboat machine goes into rabid attack mode in the general election.

@ Xrandadu Hutman

I believe WES assumes part of Obama's popularity is that he appeals to a broad base of voters, rather than accept Obama is beating HRC amongst Dem voters only. I'm not sure, but I think WES thinks that is bad.

Someone spell it out for me

Are these 50 superd's who've already told Obama they are backing him, now about to go public with it?

OR

Are the 50 superd's who were undecided, announcing they are now decided in favor of Obaba?

OR

Are these 50 superd's who supported HRC before and are now changing over to Obama?

@ writerinLA

I don't know, I guess since she CAN win, why should she leave? As long as both candidates keep it dignified, no harm.

@ Dawggone

"To those of you who lust over Obama Please list out his legislative record."

Why? Why should his legislative record, or lack of one be some kind of end all, be all method of his worth as a candidate? Isn't it valid for people to hear what he has to say, and support him based on that?

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 11:27 AM

@ Dawggone

"...when he says "You are the people we've been waiting for." you intend to explain what to do now that you've arrived."

Vote for him?

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 11:32 AM

@ kilroy was here

Sounds to me by your reasoning NO one is going to be a good next pres. And frankly I agree. The current pres has so fucked up the country, and a lot more, that really, whoever the next pres is, is going to come out looking TERRIBLE if they try to fix or or don't. My only real hope in a dem pres is to see if we can get some sunlight on Bush records, and get some indictments cause I believe the most damaging thing that can happen to our country is for Bush & Co. to get away with what they did with no consequences to them.

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 11:37 AM

@ Dawggone

Sorry, I'm not following you. What does Bush's private failings before he became president have to do with saying that if someone can't list Obama's legislative record they are deluded have to do with each other?

@ -- SobeOne

Surely you realize the for both Obama and HRC the % of their supporters who are 'fanatics' are relatively and probably shockingly small, and are probably all guilty of stupid right-wing like tactics.

I'm fairly sure the vast majority of the electorate aren't constantly posting on blogs and following every little detail about each candidate, and each primary. By far, I'm sure the vast majority of the electorate are going with a vaguely justifiable gut feeling, voting for their preferred candidate and not thinking about it too much.

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 11:48 AM

@ Uncle Fester

Yes, sadly I agree, the congress and next executive branch aren't going to do what NEEDS to be done with out MASSIVE public pressure.

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 11:53 AM

@ Dawggone

What the hell are you talking about. I'm asking you why his legislative record should be the litmus test of his desirabiliy as a candidate?

Isn't it valid for people to look at other things and deciding he is the candidate for them? I ask because you said if people did looked as his legislative record and still liked him, they'd be deluding themselves.
