Where's the MSM?

Considering how shamelessly MSM outlets like CNN flogged this fraud of an op-ed, they really should be held accountable and forced to acknowledge their inept reporting. I know, I know ... *crickets* *crickets* *crickets* ...

"next journey"

If this were a just world, the "next journey" Bush & Rove would be taking together would be to jail. As it is, they will probably reunite with buddy Ken Lay at the Bush family compound in Paraguay, where they can avoid extradition.

FYI, This exchange is no longer on the transcript

Joan, I went to White House.gov and checked the gaggle transcript and the second part of this exchange--the "maybe they got a really good contract" -- is no longer there. I'm wondering where you got it, if from actually watching the press gaggle or if it was ever on the transcript to begin with.

Or, maybe it's there and I'm just not seeing it!

Never Mind

I see now it was in Thursday's press gaggle, I was looking at Friday's. Never mind!

He's His Own Man, Alright

Yep, Fred Thompson sure is different from every other Republican candidate out there. What a fresh, novel perspective. Wow, I'm just bowled over.

Guffaw.

OK, so where can I get my bumper sticker that says "If you liked the past 6 years, you'll love the Fred Thompson presidency"?

Is this a North/South thing?

I wonder how much of this merely reflects the declining influence of the Southern vote? If white, male union workers are still overwhelmingly Democratic voters, that speaks as much about geography to me as anything else, since it seems to me those voters are primarily in the North. Southern states are anti-union, "right to work" states.

Losing the South

"Bubba" does indeed seem to be code for the South. Perhaps what Schaller is really saying is, have the Democrats lost the white Southern vote, and should they care. It's a hotly debated topic on blogs these days, that's for sure.

I just spent a weekend at a tiny little rural community on the Tennessee-Kentucky border. I saw more Confederate flags in 24 hours than in the whole year. I saw a pick-up with a flag-pole-sized Confederate flag attached to the back. When asking a local about the Mexican restaurant in town, my traveling companions said the response was: "I don't like no Mexicans and I don't like their damn food, either."

Democrats will never get this vote. Should they care?

Do the Republicans know this, too?

If the "Bubba vote" weren't a diminishing sector of the electorate, would the GOP be tripping over itself to steal the next presidential election by changing how electoral vote are distributed in California? Remember, that push is being financed by Texas GOP "Bush Pioneer" Bob Perry. It's clearly not about what's good for California, but what's good for the RNC.

Some Facts on Why Edwards left the Senate.

"We saw through Edwards years ago. That's why he didn't run for Senate again; he knew he'd be shellacked and wanted to save himself the embarrassment"

Er, let's have a recent history lesson here, buddy. Edwards didn't run for Senate again because he was running for PRESIDENT. He didn't win the nomination but he did get picked to be John Kerry's running mate.

Maybe you were absent that election.

Why did the Pentagon sign a new $92 mil contract...

... with Blackwater then?

You kids, offa my lawn!

Damn all of those weekend warriors and their four-hour finish times who had the temerity to ruin Edward McClelland's party! What next, handicapped people at the Olympics? Married women in Miss America? It's the decline of civilization, I tell you! Pretty soon a geeky guy from Tennessee will think he has the right to win the Nobel Peace Prize! Why can't you be happy with aerobics class at the Y like all of the other gym class failures?

Extremist Support Needs To Be Addressed

Glenn writes:

"I'm really uncomfortable with judging someone by the support they attract."

When the support comes from the likes of Stormfront founder Dan Black and former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, I don't. Especially in light of the racially insensitive views Paul held back in the '90s, this extremist, hate-based support is cause for alarm and needs to be publicly addressed. Paul needs to stand up before the cameras and unequivocally state his opposition to these views and return every penny these folks have given him.

You know damn well if a Democrat had support from groups this far outside the mainstream there'd be no end to the pearl-clutching and hair pulling.

Maybe You Aren't Trying Hard Enough

"making it harder to read his candidacy in terms of race?" Really? No one else seems to have a problem doing it!

I am so sick of hearing about race and gender in this election. When will the media cover things like, you know, policy positions? It's the media, not the voters, who keep putting race and gender front and center.

Original article: The cat whisperer

Cats are VERY useful

But we didn't select cats to be useful to us. They were selected by nature to use us.

Not to quibble, but that's horseshit. Humans found the cat's ability to clear mice and rats out of the grain bins extraordinarily advantageous. It may have been the cat's idea, but humans were easy converts.

Another aspect not mentioned ...

.. is the arson of three luxury homes in Seattle's "Street of Dreams" which occurred while Waters was on trial. Waters' attorneys tried to argue a mistrial, saying publicity around that event would prejudice the jury. The judge didn't buy it.

The FBI called it an act of eco-terrorism because ELF graffiti was found on the scene. But the three homes destroyed were owned by developer John Heller, the housing market is tanking, and it all seems very convenient.

Who knows what really happened: it just appears that environmental groups are an easy target, and one that Corporate America and their GOP cronies would like to publicly smear any chance they can get.

At least he's right about the war

He's definitely wrong on this issue but he's one of the few Republicans in Congress who is firmly against the Iraq War. I know, stopped clocks and all. Still, we have precious few of those folks in Tennessee and especially in the GOP.....
