This is why impeachment is a must

As I posted this morning , this is exactly why impeachment is a must. There is a strong punitive element that runs through the American psyche in tandem with the "fearful, reflexive bellicosity" Kamiya writes about. Actions must have consequences, illegal or immoral actions must have punitive consequences. For the Democrats to not impeach now sets them up for another generation of "weak-kneed wimps" framing. It reinforces everything the Republicans have been saying about them since forever.

Did they check the kerning?

The Little Green Snotball faction of the blogosphere is truly infatuated with the trivial. I suppose it would have been too easy to fire off an e-mail to someone with the U.S. forces in Iraq to verify the report. Instead, these "ace reporters" turn to such bizarre fact-checking methods and checking kerning and logos.

And despite all of this, they will continue to be trotted out on Fox Snooze as some kind of expert.

Insane.

WTF???

"... marriage is an institution which is assigned to bring a man and a woman together to raise a child, and that the ideal setting for society at large is when there is a male and female associated with the development and nurturing of a child."

OK, what about all of us hetero couples who don't have any children??!! These statements invalidate us, too. Mitt Romney is an ass.

Gen. Pace is out

I just heard on the TV that Gen. Peter Pace has resigned. Guess there's a family somewhere that he needs to spend time with.

please explain

Could someone please explain to me why the press corpse bothers to go through this charade known as the "white house press briefing"??? All it offers is a chance for the white house to lie and the TeeVee news to broadcast misinformation and propaganda.

I fail to see the point. Wouldn't everyone be happier if they just gave up on the whole dog and pony show?

Language Creep

This is a little OT but talks to a pet peeve of mine: Why does Al Gore always live in a "10,000-foot Tennessee mansion" but President Bush has a "ranch"? Why does the Bush family have a "summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine" but the Kennedy family has a "compound"?

Just wondering.

Kristol Makes Our Point

Kristol: "So I regard this as an extremely clever Machiavellian move by the president. It cheers me up. It cheers me up about the Bush White House, and I'm really heartened."

So Krisol is cheered up because the President made this hugely important decision for purely political purposes, to influence the 2008 election? With no consideration for the rule of law, national security, or even his friendship with the Scootster himself but SOLELY for political purposes?

isn't that EXACTLY what we've been saying about the GOP for years now? They don't care about running the country, they don't care about national security, they in fact do not care about ANYTHING EXCEPT WINNING ELECTIONS!!!

Wake up and hear the alarm bells, America.

Mad about "Men"

We TiVod Mad Men and finally watched it last night. Way to go, AMC! Great characters, sizzling dialogue, an intriguing setting full of opportunity for biting commentary on modern society. The tobacco account angle is a tad too "thank you for smoking," I'd have preferred something more original, but it also says a lot about the era in which this story is set.

As for "John From Cincinnati," well, that dog needs to take the bus back to Ohio. I call it "Yawn From Cincinnati."

WTF ???

(When Christians vote, our values move forward in the culture war when Christians stay home, the enemy wins.)

So now everyone else is THE ENEMY?

Pray for God to break the spiritual strongholds over Iowa that would keep Sam from being brought more into the national spotlight.

Oh the HUBRIS! So if he wins, it's because God loves him. And if he loses, it's because Satanic forces have conspired against him. What arrogance.

Maybe God doesn't want you to win, Sam Brownback. Maybe God wants you to go into your closet and pray in secret and find that big honkin' log in your eye.

you gotta be kidding me

"New Vics" "yearning for tradition"? "Spinster sisters in their 30s fretting over their biological clocks"?

Jeez how many cliches and false assumptions about American womanhood could they weave into this tall tale. Did they remember the one about unmarried women with a college education more likely to be killed by a terrorist than getting married, too?

This sounds like James Dobson's wet dream. Sadly, it's about as far removed from reality as everything else these idiots peddle.

I feel your pain

I was without my computer for three DAYS last week. I can't imagine going three weeks. I felt completely disconnected from what's happening in the country. I caught a little bit about Alberto Gonzalez' testimony, but that's only because I have a satellite radio in my car. Instead I learned that Lindsay Lohan was arrested again and Beyonce fell on her bum.

One really does need to CHOOSE to be informed these days, one needs to seek out relevant news, and sadly one needs the computer and the internet to do it. It sure isn't coming to us over the TV.

Stupidest thing I ever heard

If ever we needed proof that Howie Kurtz is a moron, this is it. I mean for God's sake, we have a freaking description of Bill Clinton's penis thanks to the Monica Lewinsky scandal. There is nothing about the Clintons that hasn't already been picked through, poured over, chewed up, and spat out in the public discourse machine. That right wingers will attack Bill Clinton is a matter of course. Hell they blame him for everything, including Hurricane Katrina.

I'm no HIllary supporter, but the ONE good thing I can say about Candidate Hillary is that every possible piece of dirt on her and her husband has already been unearthed.

re: the military vote

And yet, the military still votes largely Republican ..

I'm calling bullshit on this particular piece of conventional wisdom. I have yet to be shown the evidence that the active duty military is more Republican than any other segment of the U.S. population.
