Ads?

I use both GMail and Yahoo - but I run strong adblockers in Firefox. I never see graphical ads on Yahoo mail.

Topicals

Quite a few of these countries authorize stamps at least partly intended for topical collectors - folks who collect cars, or trains, or X-Men on stamps. Finding a stamp of the type discussed in the article that's properly used in the postal system of the nation in question is quite a challenge for collectors of that nation's stamps.

Original article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily

Well-done

As a former minor-league baseball fan (I attended quite a few Frederick Keys, Hagerstown Suns, and Charleston Wheelers games with my grandmothers during the late 1980s and early 1990s, before the advent of independent ball), I thought King did an excellent job in the time alloted showing both the passion and the reality of the Golden League. I lost interest in baseball in general a long time ago (about the time that the Wheelers stopped being the Wheelers), but I thank King for this piece.

Original article: Quote of the day

True, but kind of banal, and not reflective of the Republican campaign of late...

I've voted early, for Obama (in Ohio) yesterday - but I actually agree with Schmidt, at least superficially. Still, it's not the most original of sentiments, and it doesn't take into account the despicable and desperate Republican campaign of late.

Original article: The power of the pen

looks like the source is...

Greg Craig, the counsel to the president. At least that's assuming Wikipedia's correct...

Huh?

Men are like microwaves and women like crockpots? Gee, I didn't realize that we men could set ourselves to 90% or 30% power at the touch of a button. I'm glad Pennsylvania in the late 80s was more enlightened - in tenth-grade health class, the teacher blew up a condom like a balloon to show just how strong it was...

Original article: PBS's latest infomercial

And it's probably during a pledge drive...

which makes it an example of the reason I don't give to PBS: they can the programs I actually watch (chiefly Red Dwarf if it's on a channel I get, This Old House and Masterpiece Theatre episodes) to raise money by broadcasting something like this, silly financial shows, or musical groups that were popular in the 1950s. When they start Red Dwarf or This Old House marathons, well I might reconsider.

A little stylistic error...

The country is Ukraine, not "the" Ukraine.

Original article: IKEA is as bad as Wal-Mart

Decent stuff

I know it's been mentioned plenty of times in the thread already, but I'm quite satisfied with the Ikea things I have, from a queen-sized bedframe that's quite sturdy and fits my style, to the Leksvik bookcases (solid wood) and a solid-wood coffee table that isn't made any longer. And then there's the dining room table, and the desk on which I'm typing this - they've all held up well, they fit my style, they weren't exhorbitantly expensive, and I'd buy them again. I do have plenty of non-Ikea pieces - dining room chairs from my great-grandparents; my great-grandmother's bedside table; my grandmother's glass-topped small table, and the Ikea pieces fit well with them. I don't have the time or energy to spend on searching Craigslist, and I don't like shopping generally - so I don't go to yard sales. Sure, some Ikea stuff is cheap, but not all of it is, and it's certainly not disposable. My fiancee and I enjoy period trips down to West Chester. Their environmental record? Probably as good as anyone else's, and at least they're aware of the issue on a public level...

isnt't the U.S. President

supposed to put U.S. interests first, before those of other countries (just as the leaders of other countries likely put their countries' interest first)?

Friday, October 16, 2009 03:16 PM

Um, yeah, you are obligated to do that...

So he's deciding not to marry interracial couples? What other laws won't he enforce? Traffic tickets his buddies get? He's a jp - he doesn't get to choose which laws he obeys. What an embarrassment to Louisiana and the south.
