Public Option

I read somewhere, I think it was on the Physicians for a National Health Plan, that a public option that would compete against insurance companies would ultimately go under. Why? The author stated that the public option would suck in all the sick and old, and its costs would sky-rocket. Has anyone else heard this?

First of all, I don't believe there will be a public option, because Obama is so weak in his talk about insisting there is one. I would have a lot more respect if he forcefully and unequivocally said "If you don't give me a bill that has a public option, I'm going to veto it." He needs to be bold.

However, I am still of the opinion that we need a SINGLE PAYER plan. Anything, I mean anything, that includes the insurance industry getting a mandate (pay or play) à la Massachusetts will FAIL. Massachusetts is fucking shit-hole disaster.

The Marxists have been right on this point for 150 years

Unregulated capitalism produces a polarization of wealth, with wealth increasing in the hands of those who control capital. It's one of the laws of capitalism.

Americans are too fucking dumb to get this.
