I do agree with another poster here that he didn't write one damn word of that speech because he delivered it as if he didn't understand of feel the gravity of what he was saying.

Generally, a good article. I think that each individual person must decide if he or she is fat and how that fat affects his/her quality of life.

I have a big issue with NAAFA (National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance) in that in the past, especially, the website has tried to minimize the health affects of obesity. I find this scientifically (and morally) reprehensible. Furthemore, it writes "Scientific studies have shown that most people cannot sustain long term weight loss." To which, I say, "So? Keep trying." Most people who go to Sexaholics and AA fail, as well; does that mean we should just say, "Fuck it!" (No pun intended to the sex addicts out there)?

I think the author is correct in that our culture is too critical of fat people and I agree with her that people should be allowed to be as fat as they like. However, dangerous habits of overeating and unhealthy eating need to be taken into consideration so that people can choose for themselves their own "bottom line" weight.

These people understand nothing of economics. When you build a missile and drop the bomb, it does not create wealth. The only money made is by the company that built the missile and sold it to the government. Yes, jobs are created and money exchanges hands, but you can't create more wealth from a missile because of the inherent nature of its use-value (it destroys). Bridges, buildings, scientific research, education, preventive medicine, all these things create more wealth, and keep creating wealth because of the capital nature of the investments.

These Republicans need to read Marx's "Das Kapital", it's all described therein.
