The Looney Left??

It seems to me that we progressives have been the only ones correctly predicting the future. Most everything that BushCo promised has not come to pass. I'm talking here about tax cuts that (eventually) benefit everyone; I'm talking about overjoyed Iraqis who were to throw garlands of flowers on the liberators; I'm talking about how the entire war would cost no more than $50 billion (because Iraq has huge reserves).

None of this has come to pass. We are constantly told about the virtures of the free market, except that today we are witnessing a Wall Street meltdown the likes of which we haven't seen since 1929. Huge banks, brokerages, and even Ford and GM want government hand-outs in order to survive. Face it, folks, the New Deal was necessary to save capitalism; the ruling class was so scared that it was going to be overthrown that Roosevelt HAD to initiate some reforms.

I'm beginning to think that perhaps we need to go through a complete economic devastation in order to convince the working dumb-fucks that voting for the interests of the ruling class will ALWAYS leave them out in the cold. I don't think any amount of campaigning, canvassing, TV ads, appealing to reason (if there is indeed any), rallies, or NPR analysis is going to sink into the collective thick-skulled white, working class.

When/if McCain wins, it will accelerate this process of total economic meltdown. The birth pangs (LOVE YOU CONDOLEEZA BABY) of the new class consciousness when/if Obama loses?? This is what the socialists have been saying for nearly 30 years: that all progressive tendencies and movements die in the Democratic Party. Perhaps it needs to die.

Todd Palin Will NOT Get

The gay vote. Take it from me, we gay guys do NOT think he is hot. Not even remotely.

The trailer trash gay guys, perhaps.

Try RuralGay.com, maybe that crowd might cream their jeans over him, but not most gay guys.

We Shouldn't Be Surprised

Of course, I knew this was going to happen.

John Nichols last night was talking about this issue on Ron Reagan's radio program. He said that the Republicans were throwing everything/anything into Alaska to prevent this investigation. The lawlessness of Republicans does not cease.

@BD

Here's what you should do: STOP SENDING THE MONEY.

I am almost in your exact shoes, except that my parents (my dad and his wife) are just barely making it. My dad's wife fell down the stairs and shattered her ankle, with no health insurance. At least the hospital hasn't taken them to court. I was going to pay the $15,000 bill, but I didn't, for the very reason that my dad, at least, votes Republican. I said to myself "screw it." How could he vote against his gay son?

Oh, I understand the feelings. My dad is SO non-judgmental, actually he's very tolerant of other people. I really don't get it.

Make it clear that you don't approve; there is nothing wrong with that. I have since started to talk to my dad about how the Republicans are screwing THEM, by supporting the status quo, especially with regard to health insurance (the lack of it).

Well...

Turn-about is fair play, isn't it?

Original article: Sarah Palin, energy expert

Palin and McCain

Caribou Barbie is an expert in energy issues and Grandpa Simpson claims to be an expert in foreign policy, when clearly he doesn't know who Zapatero is?

Original article: My candidate, myself

This is Why...

It is so very important that everyone receive both a liberal, and scientific education.

I was extremely lucky to fall in love with science (chemistry) where I majored in it in undergrad and went on to graduate school. You can certainly fall in love with your own ideas, but original research certainly kicks your ass and Mother Nature shows you that you are NOT hot shit. A research project never turns out the way you expect it to be. The great thing about working in science is that it's not another person that necessarily tells you are wrong: you figure that out yourself. It's a most humbling experience, and you learn a tremendous amount about yourself.

I'm a snob. I think everyone should take some science and learn the rigors of the scientific method. I must point out that the scientific method is a framework from which we scientists start, it's not an exact blueprint of how we conduct research.

I fear for this country. We have a VP candidate who is a creationist. We have astronomical numbers of Americans who believe in pre-scientific notions from the Bronze Age. It's as if the Renaissance and the Enlightenment never occurred. Americans are, for an industrialized country, profoundly and uniquely uneducated, especially compared to European countries.

Large numbers of people have no more information or grasp of how the world works than someone who lived in the Middle Ages. It's terrifying.

Is Margriet making this shit up?

It's so awfully oozing with simple-minded drivel even I didn't think that could appeal to McCain's fans. Tell me they aren't all that gullible.

I thought he was the "Maverick"

Aren't mavericks supposed to be strong and tough? Suck it up and work, sissy.

Original article: Cranky vs. cool

I wanted to scream at Obama "TALK ABOUT THE COSTS OF THE WARS"

If we slashed the defense budget by 66% as Ralph Nader used to say, we could have health care for all and investment in science and technology.

I'm tired of these fucking imperialist wars. None of use is "safer" but rather the opposite.

I don't think this is news

That Palin participated in inane event is well known.

I think what counts now is that she still seems to embody the vapid aspirations of a beauty queen: all show and glitz with no intellectual rigor. If she were somehow extremely well versed, articulate, and knowledgeable, even if still very right-wing in her perspective, I would have some respect. Anyone can and should become president or vice-president but the phrase implies that anyone should have the opportunity to work for it. Sarah Palin is not qualified because she hasn't put in the time to study, think, absorb, ponder, or participate in anything that would challenge her to prepare for the vice-presidency.
