Coach & Tami Taylor

I dislike football, in general, but have fallen in love with FNL. What wins me over every week is the relationship between Coach Taylor and Tami which I think is one of the best written and acted married relationships on television. I haven't read a lot about the mechanics of the show, but I often wonder if they don't spend a lot of time rehearsing scenes because they often seem really fresh and the actors talk more like real people with pauses, stammering, talking over each other.

As for Survivor, I was almost ready to quit the show due to Rocky's amplifying assitude each week, but Yau-Man has made me want to keep watching. My favorite moment, to date, was when he single-handedly won the arrow/spear challenge for his team and wiped the smirk off of Mookie's face. I also loved that he made and buried a fake immunity idol. I hope he makes it to the finale.

Cleveland Amory?

How old are you boys? Fine, you think Heather's a hack. But, you wank about her over and over each week to point where it's become a joke. These letters are seldom insightful and most often spiteful. Instead of deconstructing every word HH writes and finding glib ways of attacking her, why don't you write your own commentaries about television in your own blogs or columns. Then post a link to them here so we can be wowed by your brilliance.

tomreedtoon, why so fucking angry?

Good god, man, do us and yourself a favor and stop reading ILTW so that you can give your festering hatred of HH a break.

Thank you for saying what I felt watching last night

It seemed incredibly exploitative of people's misery, particularly the scenes from Africa. It's a good cause and knowing the plight of people in Africa and the U.S. is valuable, but the way it was carried out left me with a sick feeling. The Carrie Underwood video was particularly cringe-worthy and tacky. We ended up fast fowarding (thank goodness for DVRs) though a lot of it.

Re: the dates

"has anyone noticed that his diary extends to August of this year? It's fiction, people."

He wrote the dates in "European" format, not U.S. 09/01/07 is January 9, 2007.

Mr. Kurth's piece was enlightening. I only wish he had tightened up the first page as he really comes off like a jackass and the smugness detracts from the real meat of the article.

like clockwork

tomreedtoon crawls out of the woodwork to crap on Heather.

I too was surprised at the lack of drama, fake or otherwise, this season. I actually found myself longing for the trainwreck that is Janice Dickinson. I also felt bad for Renee with all the talk about how old she looked, but she really does look more like a catalog vs. high fashion model. Heather you cracked me up about the extra-large fake eyelashes on Miss Tyra. They were crazy!

Hilarious

Great recap, HH. I gave up on this season about 6 episodes into it, but have been amusing myself with the funny recaps on TWOP. I've found that 24 is much more enjoyable when being made fun of vs. watching the actual episodes.

Great review

Marchese nailed pretty much everything I thought about the finale. The guest artists were random, to say the least. Joe Perry? Green Day? Actually, I enjoyed them the most (hate me if you must). I don't know why Bette had to sing that dreck when she has some campier, more enjoyable tunes in her repertoire. It also looked like Gwen Stefani's lame performance was lip synched

Have to agree about the DVR making American Idol tolerable. You can FF though the crap (Sanjaya) and linger on the good (Melinda). Although, like another person said, we missed the final coronation because the show ran too long.

Finally, I am making a personal plea to Ray Davies to pay Sanjaya whatever it takes to get him to stop murdering your song.

Original article: The other mothers

Stay at home parenting vs. child care

This is for all of the troglodytes blathering on about "if you have children, you (i.e. the mother) should stay home with them". Many studies have shown there is little difference in a child's outcome whether their parents work or stay at home. You would think that children raised by stay at home moms are models of perfection. As we all know from experience that is far from true.

I am sick of all the mommy war crap. My mom worked and never felt guilty about her choice. She took pride in her job, loved her family, and she was a great role model. I've never felt like I was emotionally scarred by not being with her 24/7 prior to kindergarten. Sheesh. Women are way too hard on themselves. To all the moms out there, stop feeling guilty. If someone doesn't like your choice, ignore them. Only you know what works best for you and your family.

My definition of worse has changed

After reading this fantastic article and the descriptions of the horrible airports in Dakar and Mumbai, I don't know that I can complain any longer about domestic US airports. Loved everyone's comments, though.

Original article: Goodbye, Harry Potter

Will be so glad when the Potter mania subsides

You know it's one thing when you are trapped in a theater and a preview comes on that gives away half of the movie. But, when you come to a website, you are not captive. You don't have to click on a link to an article that may or may not spoil things for you. I can't believe all of this sturm und drang over Potter spoilers. Stay offline for a couple of days if knowing the tiniest thing about the book is going to ruin your experience of reading the goddamn book. I could understand all this handwringing from little kids, but adults? Sad.
