If these are from a non-state email account, it's definitely an invasion of privacy. I wonder how the paper came into their possession? Jenny Sanford? One of their children? Pissed off relative? The mind boggles.
I also feel some sympathy for the parties involved. Mostly for the kids. I agree he's a raging hypocrite and personally deserves his comeuppance. I generally don't give a crap about politicians sex lives, but if you're blasting other people's morals while cheating on your wife, you deserve whatever scorn comes your way.
In regards to this particular email, it was obviously sent last summer. Which means he was carrying on his affair while McCain was going through the VP vetting process. I wonder if McCain's staff had any whiff of this?
This is definitely one of the better MJ articles I've read. You nailed the silliness of most of the media tsunami surrounding this story. In regards to the celebs, it's all part and parcel of their craven need for attention. It's also interesting that Sheryl Crow was interviewed given that she's spent her career talking about how icky it was to be a MJ back up singer.
"another unprovoked attack by the child-free on the child-rearing?" Are you serious? Attack? Hilarious. I think most parents have a thicker skin than you think. And those who feel "attacked" need to get over themselves and stop reading STFU Parents. I mean that's the same advice given by a couple letter writers in regards to people annoyed by parental oversharing, right? Bottom line, like the so-called mommy wars, pitting parents against childfree is really tedious.
Whatever sympathy I had for Mrs. Sanford has evaporated. If they cared about their family so much they'd keep their traps shut. I imagine Bravo or TLC execs are busy figuring out how to work a reality show around these two oversharing boobs.
"What a maroon". Her speech was borderline nonsensical. I'm sure readerreader will come up with a more intelligent explanation for her decision and thought process than the lady herself.
Weren't these Palin fanatics the same ones who blathered about Obama supporters treating him as if he were the messiah. I'm sure the hypocrisy is lost on them
Can we please concentrate on Palin the politician and not the parent? mlevaren is absolutely right. Shipman may have written a ridiculous book on parenting for white, upper class women such as herself, but it hardly makes her an authority.
Are you trying to go all Huff Post on us? Broadsheet seems to like to wallow in fluff, but this post really struck a new low. If you're going keep this kind of crap on the site, could you at least try to reserve the top home page spots for articles with more substance? Judy Berman, are you serious? Whether she was nudged or not, why do you care? Why should we care? You're really scraping the bottom of barrel trying to find ways to keep MJ on the front page.
The uproar is likely due to the fact that her fan base is generally younger than she is. All the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fans in my circle of family and friends are between the ages of 6 and 11. She must have older fans, but I think it's the preteens that make up the bulk. Therefore, whatever outrage these photos are generating is probably coming from the parents of young children.
As for Ms. Cyrus declaring she's not a kid, good luck with that. Hopefully she's taken a page from Mandy Moore and not Britney Spears.
Personally I couldn't care less about Woody Allen, Soon-Yi, or Mia Farrow. But as someone who remembers the paparazzi photos of them in the 80s, Mia's children did spend time with Woody in what most people would consider doing things as a family. I can't be the only person who remembers seeing photos of Woody, Mia and the kids at outings and returning from vacations. There was also a pic of teen SoonYi and Woody at a basketball game. If Soon Yi didn't see him as a father, fine. But it's understandable that outsiders would get a different impression.
Based on what I've read about Welch's private life, he's not someone I'd want to emulate. Maybe it's time for us to redefine what it means to have a successful career. Men entering the workforce today are more enlightened than dinosaurs like Welch, in my experience. In my company, work/life balance is actively encouraged. Jack should come talk to the parents at the top of my company to see how it's done.
Stories about people living together in healthy and mostly happy relationships usually don't make the front page. Given the spate of prominent "marriage sucks" articles recently, this was fun to read. As for Caitlin Flanagan, I think she enjoys being a contrarian and wringing controversy out of anything she writes about. I really can't bring myself to read anything she writes any longer. Based on commentaries Ive read, her marriage article is as inane as her other work. Anyway, this was fun to read, Aaron.
Here's your gold star for hating TV and being a self righteous tool. If these articles bother you so much, ignore them. Is that so hard to do? If you feel you just can't keep your feelings in, write a letter to Joan Walsh.
Heather, I know that the reality shows give you a wealth of material to work with, but I wish you'd give more time to other shows. I think tomreedtoon had a good suggestion about Bullshit.
