"Our military isn't strong. It's insanely huge and it's past bankrupting us."
Look, I'm probably a bit older than you are, so let me tell how the military used to be. Did you know that in the 1980s our military was about twice as big as it is now? Seriously! The difference is that our military then was MUCH more self-sufficient than it is now. Now, the military is dependent on so many civilian businesses to help, it's ridiculous. Now if you want to argue that we need to ween the military away from civilian help, I would gladly agree with you!
"It's also got that socialist V.A."
Oh I know ALL about the VA. Look, the V.A. doctors do the best they can but I can tell you from experience that they aren't the best guys to work on you in the world. Granted it IS free, but in this case I can truthfully say that you get what you pay for.
As for your sister's disablity with the military, she gets a military disability pension NOT welfare! Welfare is paying someone who can fully work in any capacity but can't find a job. Military disability is a payment given to a soldier who lost some kind of ability to work at a given job (i.e. lost their legs or lost some portion of arm movement, etc). It is a payment for the loss of some physical ability they once had. Seems proper to me, although it sounds to me like you would begrudge her that money because you consider her "getting welfare", even though she EARN it.
"Of course, she votes Republican, and, of course, she complains about taxes even though my taxes pay for her health insurance and her welfare."
As I explained, she ISN'T getting welfare. And as for her health insurance, if she's getting treated at the V.A. for her disability, seems to me she earned it. Guess you don't like the G.I. Bill either, which gives military guys the chance to go to college too.
"What about all those military beneifts our taxes pay for."
Complain to your representative...and all those who came before. THIS is how they setup the military after WWII. It's how it was setup when the guys JOINED the military.
Frankly, the only ones I have disrespect for are those who joined during peacetime to get the benefits and then who bailed out when called up. And then AFTER the war (speaking of Desert Storm here), tried to get back IN!!! I was SO happy when the military said they could never reenlist again!
"Well ALMOST... I notice there is NO mention of an airforce in there... obviously that means the U.S. airforce is unconstitutional, according to the originalists."
Well, the airforce was originally part of the Navy and the Army. It was actually a struggle as to which one would claim it...but in the end, the Air Force became one of it's own...and so by default of the Congressional authority over both parent services, became covered by their authority as well. Same holds true of the Marines, which were originally a part of the Navy.
"Perhaps... but you're also not factoring in the amount of people that Obama is losing because he's not going far enough with healthcare reform. Remember, the vast majority of the American public overwhelmingly supports some form of healthcare reform. And over 60% of the American public actually supports something closer to the single payer option that Obama never even put on the table."
Oh I disagree with your last statement. I suspect it would be closer to over 60% do NOT support a single payer option. Now I WILL agree with you that probably around 90% or so of the taxpayers in this country would like to see SOME form of healthcare reform...but a public option is not supported by the majority, IMO. But then I guess we'll see what the majority wants when Congress gets back into session and votes.
"So while I agree that Obama is losing support because of a lack of clarity on his plan, I doubt that he's losing support because his bill is too "socialist" or whatever other nonsense the lying wingnuts are saying about it."
I guess we disagree here...because IMO since Obama isn't writing the plan, he is making statements which he can't backup. I think people should be talking to Pelosi rather than Obama. As for how socialist it is...we'll I'd have to see the final product to really know...but the latest version I've seen is pretty bad, IMO.
"How about citizens taking some responsibility to actually read the House bill instead of requiring the to be spoon fed. Also since the Senate has written nothing to date,it's pretty hard to answer some of the questions."
Well to this I agree...but since the bill is not completed, as has been mentioned before, all they can do is read what's there, and ask questions concerning what they have read. And if they don't understand what's there, try to determine what's in it and then ask their questions.
"It's really the president job to lead and present the over all concept, not the details."
True, except instead of saying that the bill isn't completed or qualifying his explainations with the point that it's not finished, Obama keeps mentioning details...and sometimes what he says isn't entirely correct. He should present the overall concept and then defer the details to, say, Pelosi.
