@ RW

"Way to be a stupid right-winger nutjob, bro!"

Really? Because I suggested they allow the people to decide??? BTW, I don't live there but whatever.

"The initiative process in California has been usurped by out-of-state special interests to try and trick inattentive citizens into voting in the most Draconian, intrusive measures possible that would have no chance of passing in the Legislature, once any real analysis was done."

Then it's up to the other interest groups to educate the citizens. I STILL do not understand why it's a bad thing to let the people decide. Why would anyone say the people can't decide for themselves and we need to force it on them? If the people want it, the will vote for it, if they don't they will vote against it.

"For example: Proposition 8, whose main funding comes from the Knights of Columbus, the American Family Association and the Mormons; LDS elders have ordered the Mormons to give basically all of their discretionary income to Yes on 8, and the members of this cult are dutifully complying. This, despite the fact that the State has only asserted full equality for same-sex couples in CIVIL marriage; the churches can discriminate as much as they want (the commercials claiming otherwise are LIES). And this, despite the fact that no RATIONAL person can explain how marriage between gays and lesbians impacts "straight" marriage in any way; all arguments end up citing Biblical dogma or some vague "tradition" argument, which does NOT stand up in civil law (otherwise we'd still have slavery, women as non-voting chattel, polygamy, no marriage between the races, etc.)."

And your point is? Again, if this is not correct, it is up to those who disagree with the initiative to get the information out to the people.

Don't you agree the people of California should have the right to decide whether or not they want to have this initative???

SO

What is the big deal? I thought Democrats WANTED people to have a say in how they are to be governed.

So, why have problems with an initiative coming up on a ballot. The majority rules, right?

Unless, of course, you DON'T want the majority to rule but just want government to run ONLY the way YOU want it to run.

If this is the case and you're preaching majority rule as long as it goes along with what YOU agree with, you are a hypocrite and are no better than those you condemn in the other party.

Right?

Now a question

Obama says he will give a tax cut to the middle class and will increase the taxes on the rich.

Ok...now, as we all know, when faced with a tax increase, the rich will endeavor to find tax shelters, move their money out of the country, or (as a last resort) attempt to earn less to keep themselves in a lower tax bracket.

NOW, if this happens and Obama has all these wonderful programs he wants to start, just WHERE is all the money to pay for these programs going to come from then???

@Canbee

"Government has failed us?!? Say rather that we have failed government, or at least those of us who voted for Bush and the GOP in the last 8 years have."

And yet, isn't it interesting that the Bush Administration warned of this possibility in 2001 and 2003 and McCain tried to pass legislation to regulate this in 2006 - but no one would listen.
