I guess we're both jaded SOBs - because I don't have a problem with it really.

My issue with him originally coming up with the promise was the fact he didn't have a plan for it.

I mean, I actually understand WHY Congress did what it did. Hell, you can't close down ANY prison without at least knowing where you're going to send the populace. So I sort of expected this, frankly.

What worries me and others I know is, now that he's reneged on ONE promise, what's to keep him from discarding another...or ALL of them, for that matter?

As long as no one questions him about his broken promises, he can do that the entire time he's in office. Someone's gotta hold him to some kind of accountability.

Halliburton was around LONG before George W was. It originally contracted with George H. Bush during Desert Storm to do work no one else could do...hence they got the bid.

Bill Clinton CONTINUED to us Halliburton, NOT bidding out the contract because no one else could do what Halliburton did.

George W CONTINUED using Halliburton, citing the same reasons Bill Clinton did.

NOW, Obama is CONTINUING to use Halliburton because it is there and doing the things that need doing.

If anyone has a problem with this, then you need to contact your Congressman to change the rules used by the Federal government to bid out contracts.

The increasing rate of job losses is slowing...but the TOTAL number of lost jobs is still increasing!

Let's look at it like this. You have multiple credit cards - let's say 5 or more. And they are all maxed out. Now, you also have a mortgage and 3 cars you are paying off.

Now, you have a fixed income and want to get out of debt. What do you do?

The first thing ANY financial planner will tell you to do is to stop spending money and start paying more on your bills. No one ever spent their way out of debt...not even the government.

At any rate, why worry? Obama says we're ok so we must be, right? So the deficit continues to climb but were told "Don't worry, be happy" and to continue to party on...because everything's ok.

When the final bill comes due, you'd better be ready. My suggestion is to pay off all your bills as quickly as you can and do NOT make any more debt for yourself. The inflation rate at the end of the year is going to be horrendous too!

What is WRONG with these people? Obama says everything is fine. Having a high deficit is no problem and when he raises the taxes on large businesses and wealthy people, why they will just go out and hire a bunch of people to spend the excess money they have that Obama doesn't tax from them.

Bottom line is, you cannot control the actions of people. You can only state your opinions. Opinions don't kill people.

It takes someone who will willingly kill someone to do the job.

The idea that someone can convince someone else to kill someone simply by stating their opinion is actually a stupid idea. If such were the case, then every news media that has any opinion whatsoever should be shut down immediately - regardless of right wing OR left wing tendencies.
