@ LABC63

I agree the GOP is going to have to rebuild themselves. But we apparently disagree about the manner. A lack of leadership is the problem, IMO...not the core values. The leadership will come when someone with enough guts decides to make a stand.

In the meantime, Obama will continue to do what he thinks is right. I don't think what he is doing will work myself...it never has before. But it wouldn't be the first time if I were wrong.

Frankly, I expect an extremely bad economy with added hyper-inflation by the end of the year. And that's why I believe so few people are spending money and are in fact saving their money, which is causing the lack of employment at this time. Now, I'm no economist but I can see what is occurring in the world.

If it makes you feel better, though, I sincerely hope I'm wrong and President Obama is right about the economy...but I feel pretty confident I am right. Do I hope Obama fails? Hell NO...what sane person would? But I still think he will...and preparing for the worst. If I'm wrong, then I've worried for nothing...if I'm right, then I'm prepared.

But I digress...I believe the change will come during the 2010 elections for Congress. Of course, if you consider the current polls for popularity of Congress, it's a safe bet it will change in 2010.

As I said, politics is a pretty fickle arena.

@ d.c. eric

"For each, a certain point came in history where their core values became antithetical to the vast majority of the voting public."

Actually, they lost their core values by too much compromise...too much political posturing. As such, the people abandoned the parties because their core prinicles had vanished. That may well happen with the Republican Party as well...but it won't be replaced with a more moderate form of party because the people won't see a difference between it and the Democratic party.

If anything, you would see the emergence of more conservative party than the Republican party is today, if it is to be successful.

At any rate, the Democrats are in charge for now...enjoy it while it lasts because the fickle hand of politics can take that away quite quickly.

@ LABC63

"living here at War Room while you desperately spin this as a good thing for the GOP, are you?"

Nope, just giving a history lesson...or did you forget that the Republicans controlled Congress during the 1990s and then the Democrats took it back. It goes back and forth. Don't like the way the government is being runned? Just wait a few years and it'll change.

That's politics, Bud.

@ Ethel M

Think Specter moved to the left because of his cancer treatment? Trying to buy his way into Heaven just in case???

@ D.C. Eric

And you can have him. No loss.

When Senators Shelby and Nighthorse-Campbell swiched from Dem to GOP I figured they finally got smart. Didn't trust them worth a tinker's dam though.

And thanks for wishing us luck with that "permanent Republican majority"...it'll happen sooner than you think. Or don't you remember how fast politics can change?

BTW

I wouldn't say good riddance to losing Texas. After all, a lot of recruits for the military come from there. Texas is the 9th most common state for recruits to come from.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 10:34 AM

Heh

And no one talked about secession for Blue States when President Bush was elected?

Come on, this kind of talk happens all the time.

If there ever came a time when there really was another Civil War, it would be incredibly nasty and the people wouldn't be able to let it go on as long as the Civil War lasted. The American people just don't have the stomach for it anymore.

@ libertyson

Repubs are stupid???

Specter voted with the Democrats for the most part. Why is it stupid for them to distance themselves from Mr. Specter so they can run someone else against him?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 10:15 AM

About time

Hell, anyone with even a modicum of common sense knew Specter was a Republican in name only (RINO).

Guess everyone, including the mentally challenged, will know he's a Democrat now.

Question for

Those who think this airline attendant did the right thing.

If she was justified in refusing to wear the outfit, is a military female justified in refusing to cover her head for the same reason while working in Kuwait or Iraq or Afghanistan?

Just curious if you think both of them should be allowed to continue with their jobs while refusing to follow customs of the host nation.

Oh and would that also go for all soldiers having to be quiet while the Iraqis or Afghanistanies pray 4 times a day? Think the soldiers should just ignore their customs?

Original article: Torture and truthiness

Well heck

If you want to investigate everyone who thinks torture is ok, then you'd be very busy indeed. Start with the majority of guys in the military, then go thru a number of states in the US too.

Amazing!

Someone who has a column in Salon who explained what occurred during the Bush years! Never thought I'd EVER see it.

Of course 99% of those here will disregard it and will call it Republican rhetoric...but of course the truth will out eventually, as it always does.

Get OVER it already

The people have spoken and the majority do NOT want gay marriage in California.

So if you want to get married, go to one of the states that approves of gay marriage.

Geez, this isn't a hard thing to figure out, you know.

@ Jeff_S

True enough...but then we had the bailout of the banks which we were told would fix the problem...and the problem persists.

We were told Obama could fix everything and it's steadily gotten worse.

So...when is the big fix coming?
