Well the problem with this question is that it gives nice words for civil war.
Would you want to leave Iraq, even if it leads to a bloody civil war?
Well, that IS what is being suggested, abeit nicely worded.
If so, then you have NO problem with the consequences of watching people who depend on us be exterminated, much like what occurred during Viet Nam.
I frankly believe we will not leave there but will install a permanent post there, from which we will monitor the area for future hostile intents...ASSUMING the indigenous government agrees to this. If the government does not agree to it, then our hands are clean if war erupts there...if they do agree to it, then we can help them to continue to make their country safer, and can still bring home a majority of our soldiers there.
rupert_c,
"So, which devil has rained more death and destruction down upon upon the mideast, the Taliban or the United States of America? More importantly for us Americans, which devil has caused more harm to OUR economy?"
So what...we should just stick our heads in the sand and hope they don't do anything HERE? That didn't work on 9/11. Makes me nervous when unstable individuals who preach a religion that can't wait to see God (or Allah) and that the infidel should be taken out, get their hands on WMD. Maybe you're ok with that but when someone doesn't value their lives (much less OURS) and can destroy on that level, I get really nervous.
BTW, I did see something where they found 550 metric tons of uranium yellow cake in Iraq, according to the AP. So at least we found something worth going in there to get anyway.
changes to PREVENT the need for bankruptcy. A lowering of taxes, a dropping of the gasoline tax to reduce the cost to the consumers (and meanwhile, drilling for more oil here at home), most strigent laws ensuring those who buy a house and afford to do so, and other similarly logical economic solutions to the problems we have right now.

"Well it's a toss up between the Russians, the Iraqis and the Iranians actually. With the Egyptians coming in a distant second place. If we look west from there the Algerians and Libyans have definitely killed their share. And let's not forget Sudan.
There are numerous countries that hate the US. I don't worry about most of them because the sane ones KNOW we can tear them a new one, if need be. It's the insane ones who don't give a rip about living or dying that worry me.
Good luck with that.
Particularly since the plane you were riding in was on loan from Hillary. WHEW...talk about coincidences!!!
that if you go to a European country, say France, for a visit, they will expect you to at least TRY to communicate with them in their language. Now if you cannot do so, they will try to communicate with them in another language.
BUT, if you are going to France to LIVE there, they expect you to learn their language to allow for interaction with the native language.
There is nothing wrong with Americans learning a second language...but they should NOT be expected to communicate in a foreign language in their own country to those who are naturalized citizens and who should be learning English as they are going to live here.
about the current tax system?
If you earn over $349,700, you have to pay in 35% of your income to the government (this is just the federal taxes only).
Now, would it seem fair to you if you earned, say, $100,000 a year and had to pay in 35% of your income?
If you want a FAIR tax system, go to a flat tax...and basically say if you earn $1 you pay in 10 cents. THAT is fair and rewards productivity.
WHO has control? The boy who basically wants sex because he's wired for it (hormones, etc) or the girls, who want sex but aren't hit as hard by hormones?
Bottom line here is, if the girls don't want to get pregnant, they can insist on contraception or choose abstinence - unless of course they are raped.
So Ms. Harris is wrong! You can't blame the boys if they don't think about it - heck they are teenage boys. Most teenage boys are pretty irresponsible.
Now, the girls KNOW that they could get pregnant. And most know if they DON'T want to get pregnant, they need to use contraception or at least insist the boy bring it - or abstain from sex.
@ Philadelphia Steve,
"Force them? Republicans will just refuse to budge. George W. Bush will demand unconditional surrender. Senate Republicans will fillibuster anything other than unconditional drilling, everywhere."
Of course they will. It is a Democrat-controlled Congress and since Nancy Pelosi specifically said the Congress were to blame for the high price of gasoline in 2006 and that the Democrats had a plan to fix this problem (words which are coming back to haunt her), the Democrats will be hard-pressed to refute these claims now and since the Republicans will fillibuter anything other than drilling, the Democrats will have no choice but to capitulate.
However, I believe that drilling and utilizing the oil reserves AND starting an AGGRESSIVE search for alternative energy sources would help to resolve the problem. However, no solution will be immediate. Expect to see this continue for the next few years, reguardless of which party has control of Congress.
One must wonder though - will this affect the possibility of the Democrats continuing to hold Congress???
