re: NOW WE'RE COOKING WITH FIRE.

rufus11,

"Now you are making an intelligent complaint/point. So the local government was not sufficant in iraq or afganistan to try them? Ok. I'll buy that. But cuba? Of all places, cuba? America is a big no no, or was. Cuba?"

Well, I HAVE made intelligent points...but whatever. Cuba was picked because it was closest to the US but far enough away from the US for security reasons. Also because it the facilities, such as they were, already existed and could be repaired with minimal effort.

"this should be over by now. they had to know what info they were getting or not getting by a year. We're six years in now."

No argument...but again I believe we should return them to the place we captured them and let the government (Iraq or Afghanistan) deal with them.

"But the gop wants the judges. Not just here, but in iraq, afganistan, everywhere. they want to make the rules and set the presedence. The courts where not sufficantly republcain slanted to get the desired verdict? Welcome to the world, wecolme to reality. Better to stay off their soil. Better to not take their citizens. this way you are not beholden to their laws."

Um, I seriously doubt that. The US is working within the confines of the governments setup in both countries. Further, while we did have some impact in setting up their governments, it is the people there who run them.

"I am a soldier. I say if it's war take them out. take hostages, fine. Get info from them. But do it within the legal restrictions put on the global body. The rules/laws exist for a reason. It's so people can't take our soldiers and hold them in cells for 6 years. How long did the israni's hold their prisoners? 2 years or so? that was a major issue right? Add four years on that, to the affected countries. Think about the big picture. think about presedence."

I am a soldier too. You will recall that we follow the Geneva convention and they do not, at least on the battlefield and to the best of our ability. Granted we don't always follow the rules all the time...but we do have the ROE and we are required to follow them and some people have been burned for NOT following them. The precedence has been set. BTW, the US Supreme Court ALSO set a precedence. NEVER before has a Supreme Court given such rights to combatants while we are still in the theatre of operations.

Oh BTW, the point you made about us securing prisoners in Afghanistan - you might want to read this story that came out today:

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D919CPOG0&show_article=1&catnum=0

"We can't take people from random countries and jail them in random countires. The black op sites are unconstitutional, if has been noted. Doesn't stop the gop. They don't fear the laws, as they are above them. Once they have to face the conseqeunce for their actions one time, ONCE. this ends. Oliver north should be in prison right now. If their was a conseqeunce for their actions one time maybe they would think twice before taking the law into their own hands,"

Last I heard, we didn't jail them in random countries...we let the local government do that. BTW, which black op sites are you referring to? Gitmo isn't black ops as it is widely known.

Are you saying there are other places, in country that we do this? Do you know where they are?

Oh rufus11

"The democratic party has been infiltrated by republcains posing as democrats,as the gop was in the past. This time is differant, my freind. This time we are planning for the long haul. this time we are marginalzing the in party sabtuers. They will not have the power, as in the past. the republcains posing as dems will either be voted out, or have no power. None. We see them now. The one good thing about the last 2 years is we find out who is who and what is what. What side who is on, on which issues. The clinton, di fi, reids are going to lose all power soon. We have successfully created a new majority. We don't need the republcain moderates posing as dem's now. The gop has representation. It's called the republican party. time for liberals to have repreentation in american politics. It's been decades. time for a change."

Oh yes, yes...I've heard the rhetoric before and will doubtless hear it again...from BOTH sides. Did you know there are Republicans who says saboteurs from the Democrat party selected McCain to be the Republican nominee because he was more in tune with the Democrat side of things???

"No amount of sabotage will bring the dem's down to the gop's level, try as they might (people like clinton)."

Oh Geez. You are seriously starting to sound like a fanatic at this point. Look politicans...ALL politicans...are out for one thing...to get into a position to lead because their own ego tells them they can do it better than anyone else.

"a wise man once said. After america and the world gets a taste of american liberalism, you conserative authoritarians will never regain control. Unless you successfully infiltrate the opposition. But we're vigile now. :)"

Another wise man once said "Pride goeth before a fall." Try not to let your pride make you stumble because falling like that ISN'T pleasant.

"But please stop whining and complaining. You have your choices. Man up and choose."

Oh please! BOTH sides whine and complain...it's part of politics. That's the TRUTH!
