"Hey, if the GOP doesn't want the government to help working stiffs like me to have affordable healthcare, then I think it's only fair that they pick up the tab."
Well I have a better deal. Since the DNC wants to pay for your healthcare, we'll let them do it instead of the taxpayers.
Deal?
"We are told that the Blue Dogs and the Repubs must be forgiven if they vote against reform because their constituents are scared. Too bad. Legislation should never be passed or not based on the fear of the ignorant. People are afraid of all sorts of nonsense- fluoride, aliens, FEMA. If elected reps can’t explain common sense to their electorate they deserve to lose their seats."
No legislators are supposed to represent their constituents. If the majority of their constituents don't WANT the public option then the representatives are bound by their postion to represent them by voting accordingly. Should they be "forgiven"? No because there's NOTHING for them to be forgiven for...they are doing their jobs. You see, the people that voted them in are their bosses and they should vote according to their wishes.
"Therefore, what we now understand is that there is no reason whatsoever to prevent HCR. If you vote against it, you are either an i.d.i.o.t or you are a criminal accepting bribes from lobbyists. Forget torture prosecutions (for now)- indict on charges of bribery."
No reason other than that they are doing what their constituents want them to do. Now if they vote for it, against their constituents wishes, then they'd better be ready to look for a job. As for your idea to indict on charges of bribery, I suggest that that not be implemented, lest the person being indicted use the media to scourge those trying to bring charges.
"Down in Dixie, if someone says something silly (like you said) and someone wants to be polite, you say what I said. If you're not going to be serious, which you weren't when you "informed" me that Palin was lusting to be the VP, I can't reply."
I happen to live in Dixie and I knew what you meant...but since I didn't say anything silly, I took it to be a thanks. Oh I was serious about Palin. She wasn't running for President and to say she was running against Obama is what is silly.
"You're wrong. She's a leech on the government. She can work. She does work. So, she garners three salaries: her insane military pension, which is insane because no one in corporate America gets to retire after 20 years. Her welfare check, which is insane, because it's a second check and she doens't need it. Her corporate salary, which is the only one she fully earns. I pay for the first two."
Oh boy, a leech on the government. Wow. So I guess being ready to go to any 3rd world hellhole to be shot at for 20 years isn't worth a pension. Ok. Now...is it welfare she gets or military disability? If it's welfare, which I doubt as a military pension would probably pay her more than what would qualify her for one, then ok I agree. But if it's military disability, that is NOT a welfare check. It is compensation for a permanent injury suffered while on military duty...big difference.
"Saying it isn't welfare doesn't make it so. It comes from my pocket into hers via the government. I don't want her to have it, because she lives in a mansion and doesn't need it, but that's the way socialism works."
Ah but she EARNED it in the military...that is part of her compensation package for being in the military, whether you like it or not. When she signed up, it was in the paperwork. If you envy her so much, why not join up? Many have and aren't complaining...even if they have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Thanks! Lord knows, I can use all the blessings I can get. :-)
the manditory end-of-life counseling that is required in the current bill (as last I read it)? Well, a form of that is currently being used in the VA.
Here's the video from Foxnews (Yeah, I know many of you don't like Foxnews but I still suggest you see the video anyway).

And here is a copy of the pamphlet:

Regardless of what everyone thinks, I wanted everyone to get a look at the unvarnished booklet.
"You don't understand. You voted for Bush twice and were ready to vote for Bush with boobs: Palin."
Wow...I guess you weren't paying a LOT of attention during the last election. Palin WASN'T running for President against Obama...McCain was!
Palin was running for Vice President...so I guess you could say she was running against Biden.
"Afghanistan is hardly an unnecessary war, not as long as Pakistan has nukes. The Taliban cannot get access to these or we are all screwed."
I believe it was bretbart who said it was an unnecessary war. I didn't agree with him. I just said there was a lot of money going to private corporations to do jobs the military USED to do and could still do again, if required to do so. We did a lot of these jobs in the 1980s...the only difference is that now we have less personnel in the military than we did then.
