"Right, because you've done so well with that accounability thing the past eight years."

In point of fact, I have been saying things, if at least on the local level.

"Don't you understand? If McCain wins, you can kiss goodbye any chance of having a say in what the President does. I am not going to keep feeding tax money to a country that doesn't adhere to its own Constitution. I'll still be a U.S. citizen, and I'll keep up with the news. And if there's still a world in which to do so, I'll be back in 2012 to vote again."

Oh I understand quite well...but I think I can trust McCain more than I can Obama...simple as that. And frankly you disgust me for opting for running away rather than staying and fighting for what you believe in.

But far be it from me to stop you...there's the door.

"Finally, I just have to ask. Would you want someone talking to your mother or sister that way?"

But given the remarks on the previous post, I seriously doubt it would impact this individual either way...and honestly, I'm NOT sure they DON'T talk to their mother or sister that way!!!

"Still, right now, polls show that more people plan to vote for Obama, and that more people agree with Obama on the issues."

While I am not involved in your discussion, I will comment that the polls have been skewed by an organized effort to do so. So the polls you mention above may not necessarily be in keeping with the facts.

Only time will tell for sure.

  • Want to know the dirty little secret?

[Read the article: Have we fallen behind our parents?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I can tell you why middle class people of today have fallen behind their parents...it's because your parents were not members of the credit generation. They bought what they needed with cash or they did without it until they COULD afford it.

True, they DID have credit cards...but they didn't USE them as much as those today do...and they paid them off at the end of each month.

The cost of paying that monthly credit card bill and being unable to get that credit monkey off your back is the reason why middle class people today are worse off than their parents were.

THAT is the dirty little secret that NO ONE wants to tell you!

  • OK

Big deal. I've been to Afghanistan so I have no problem with this.

You have to understand, politicians start wars and soldiers fight them...simple as that. I have been in for 22 years so I guess I'm used to it.

I go where I'm told to go and do what the job is I'm told needs to be done.

My wife is a soldier's wife and knows that if I am killed there, it will be doing what I think is the right thing to do. After all, this is a VOLUNTARY Army and I volunteered to be in. So if I am killed, I have no one to blame but myself.

"I'm sure the troops who have given up their lives or limbs really appreciate it."

I'm sure they wouldn't have given a sh@t either way. They were there to do a job they volunteered to do and that's all.

"Cynical master of the photo op realizes that pix of him golfing make a rather awkward juxtaposition with his unjust war."

Oh please. I'm sure other Presidents played golf or whatever while troops were fighting wars (and dying too).

"Which is what makes this latest stunt all the more absurd."

I prefer the term - irrelevant...as in who cares?

"I've read similar statements before. Many of them in the German language. On the other hand, some of us believe in the sixth commandment."

Hummm...I seem to recall others in the Bible who believed in the sixth commandment too...and then heard God tell them to FIGHT and kill the enemy.

So apparently God differentiates between murder and war.

"I'm not sure that other Presidents so obtusely touted their giving up golf as some great sacrifice for the war effort, however."

    Again, who cares? It's irrelevant.

"I understand the concept of soldiery, but soldiers are citizens as well and have a right to vote for a new CIC if they feel the current one is a complete dipshit. (The top two campaigns donated to thus far by soldiers have been Ron Paul and Obama who both want us out of Iraq)."

Agreed...which is why I got so PO'D when Al Gore got 5,000 military votes in Florida discounted because they didn't have US stamps on them. For crying out loud, the military mail system DOESN'T USE stamps and there was no way the guys overseas could GET them!

At any rate, if the people vote for a new CIC, then so be it. ALL US citizens who have not committed a federal crime, have the right to vote in the General Election for the person they think will be the best CIC.

    "chiefpayne = troll

Don't feed the trolls. Especially those obtuse trolls who remain pro-Bush and pro-war."

I am neither pro nor anti Bush...and even if I WERE, I would NOT be allowed to say so until AFTER the election, as that is against military policy.

"People give a sh@t when they are being patronized, never mind being outright lied to."

True...but this is such a minor political move and really, why would the soliders care one way or another.

Besides, politicians NEVER tell the troops the ENTIRE truth. In my 22 years in the military, I've never heard the FULL truth from ANY politician.
