OMG and WTF

what's next, an association for the analyzers of analyzers? I guess human life is so difficult and complicated, some must expend some exotic energy. I like playing, and watching most sports, especially baseball and football, but when the event is over, I GO AND DO SOMETHING ELSE. I have always felt sorry for baseball statisticians, but ignored them easily. Now, this kind of detailed crap is invading football! "Jets have thrown on third down, in the third quarter, when behind by 8 or more points, to teams from latitudes above 25, whose owners have -stein in their last names, 61% of the time." Guess it's time to turn on the stereo and turn down the TV volume [esp. on Mondays!]

shoe-thrower or future MLB pitcher

as the profound ass george will continuously demonstrates, politics and sport are somewhat linked. considering the accuracy of BOTH throws, can we hope to see Muntader at spring tryouts, at least for the Royals?

Incomplete sentences

Is this a pointless concept, as more and more internet babblers create their own grammatical, syntactical, and other "rules of English" universes? Is it a conscious writing style, to accentuate issues the [author] wants to emphasize, or just laziness, to avoid editing and rewriting, which takes away time that could be used to expel every thought, because every possible thought must be provided to every reader? Two concepts seem to be missing from this discussion: 1] reflection, which [used to] mean taking real time to simply sit and think, and 2] the value of face-to-face interaction, where more than the printed word is used to comprehend our fellow human beings. Hey, thanks for the chance to babble!

the eternal PR program/pogrom

more importantly, when will this subject ever lose its "appeal" to authors, filmmakers etc.? In terms of the people affected - numerically- this is no more significant than many other tragedies, but I think some folks feel the need to elevate it to the ultimate event in human experience, maybe to remind us [taxpayers especially] the there exists a country so morally superior, so supremely important, that any activity it pursues is above criticism

Original article: I was fleeced by Madoff

too funny

yep, i feel a real kinship with the investment class - i have worked with my hands ACTUALLY MAKING SOMETHING, or repairing similar, for 40 or so years, have watched the money manipulators assume total control of this country's politics, economy, and social structure, and i'm supposed to empathize with those who first benefited, then suffered? Baby, you are just collateral damage in a [class]war you helped facilitate.

the issue is priorities

do you just need to produce X# of words? otherwise, what is this lame subject about? because you have some new stat you and a few other duds thought up, everyone who follows the sport is supposed to believe in them? if the target of the article didn't know about the potential inductees, fine, he's ignorant. because he doesn't follow your lead - ?? maybe he is spending his time in more useful ways

religious relativity?

why does he use the word "Christian" and include himself as an example? What is his religious upbringing and preference? Perhaps his comfortability with treating and discussing others as objects has more to do with his background and is not the dispassionate, objective frame of mind of an observing professional.

yet another reason to head for the hills

I'm a 61-year-old white male with a [not taxpayer-supported, NOT ONLINE etc] degree, [1970's]Mensa member, who has worked "with my hands" [like most Americans used to do] to earn a living all my working life. I am so fed up with the babblers, bit-heads, tweeters, and a culture that at every level has become so shallow that it is really a parody of the democratic concept, that I hereby renounce my participation in the society america has come to represent. I will be at home recovering from a knee replacement for a couple of months, and plan to spend the time disposing of every piece of paper I have that presents, or represents, information about how things are, were, or should be. I am not going to wait for "market forces" to destroy the rest of the print media, and most visual and virtual media are nothing but crap to fill in between the ads, or thinly disguised propaganda. Do I think the world is going "to hell" or ending? No, there are countries and cultures that seem to have a realistic approach, and I'm sure there are plenty of squared-away people in the U.S., since I actually know some! No, as I'm sure some people at the end of the Roman empire saw it falling, and merely observed the fall, did not accelerate it or scream about it, and produced either children who were aware enough to fully survive and carry on meaningful knowledge and habits, or support the more humanistic parts of the culture so that positive experiences would advance humankind. It's just that it will be a long time before enough people who can think, and care, and "sacrifice" [hah, what a loaded word that has become!], and sort out the difference between want and need, exist in sufficient numbers to overcome the population of useless, meaningless fools who predominate now. I still have a job [for now], a house[for now], and a mind[for now!]and will talk to anyone I encounter, but will forgo writing or reading useless, and even useful, communication, in pursuit of a less cluttered life. Thanks and goodbye to Salon, LAT, NYT, etc. for who knows how long. I'll mark you "spam", even though you are mostly not. Send me a postcard, as we still have the USPO[for now]...
