    The Facist In Me

When I vote, I vote democratic

And sometimes further left like peace and freedom,

    Or even libertarian

    I’m pro-choice, pro-environment

Against large corporations and the neutron bomb

But when I’m stuck on the freeway

And it's hot and someone cuts me off

I think they oughta fry that son of a bitch

    It's the fascist in me

Learn to speak English, get a job, get a life

    It's the fascist in me

Get rid of that smell, go back where you came from

    It's the fascist in me

    You're a burden, you're a drain on the economy

    It's the fascist in me

It's so distasteful going to the grocery store

For some Haagen Daaz on a Saturday night

When you have to pass this vermin

    I given to seven charities

    I’ve played five different benefits

    In the past month

    My bumper stickers say:

Save the whales, visualize peace, NPR (KPFK)

But when someone's rude in a restaurant

I’d like to make them look at the barrel of a gun

And then we'll see how smug they are

    It's the fascist in me

Wish I had the power to seize your house

    It's the fascist in me

Wish I had the authority to take your tongue

    It's the fascist in me

I’d run you naked through the middle of the town

    It's the fascist in me

You'd live in fear knowing every creak of the floorboards,

Knock on the door, or cry in the dark of night, could be your last

Sometimes I just want to take half the world and decree that they all go away

Everyone's stupid and no one has anything very insightful to say

It's the price you have to pay

    I’m tired of it today

    I’d like another way

    It's the fascist in me

Wear some normal clothes, don't have so many children,

Learn to speak English, get a job, get a life

    Where'd you get that car?

    Which drugs did you sell?

    How'd you get that job?

    Which quota did you fill?

I’d like plant my fist in your face

    Don't talk so loud

    Don't walk so slow

If you just disappeared, no one would care

No one would care if you just disappeared

Your mother oughta be down on her knees

    Cleaning up my kitchen

    It's the fascist in me

    It's the fascist in me

It's the fascist in na na na na

    It's the fascist in me

Learn to speak English, get a job, get a life

    It's the fascist in me

  • Deering ...

[Read the article: Our new friend is a racist -- should we dump him?]

"And, as I noted before, the whites who engage in this denial have the luxury of never having to deal with the consequences of tacitly approving racists and their attitudes."

Do you think whites have never had to deal with prejudices of various sorts? Regional, gender, religious, cultural, looks, and on and on? You need to get out more. Skin color is far far from the only metric of "otherness" or basis for discrimination.

  • Is the humor here ...

    how lame the comedy is?

  • Don't Cry fro Me Rodham Clinton

Don't cry for me Rodham Clinton

The truth is I never left you

    All through my Obama days

    My mad existence

    I kept my promise

    Don't keep your distance

  • All the candidates should submit lists ...

of the things they believe worth crying about. Asteriks ought to be added next to the listings they have cried about and two for those they cried about in public. This information is crucial to our ability to select the best candidate.

  • Is the letter edited?

[Read the article: My half-brother locked me in the closet and I think I'm to blame]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It seems like there is a lot missing here, or Cary is able to read between the lines far better than I can. Siblings have rivalries. Teenage boys are often sadistic adolescent schmucks. Some people get off on masochistic roles or just like attention from idols (e.g., an older brother). Is there signifcantly more here? I'm not trying to be cold or take sides at all, I just don't really read the letter as describing more than run of the mill disfunction among adolescent siblings and neurotic after effects. Serious? I guess. Uncommon? I doubt it.

  • Why not the Daily Show?

  • re: your update

[Read the article: Is it "contradictory" to decry the right's tactics while insisting on their equal application?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think they mean for "elitist" to mean "wealthy." I think they use "elitist" as a code word for someone from the other side of the cultural divide - someone who believes they are "better than you."

  • Re: the update on the polling

[Read the article: David Brooks' fictitious defense of his industry's behavior]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'd like to think that was truly representative, but I wonder if it isn't more representative of what people know they should say in response to such a question? "Oh, no, not me, I'm not interested in gossip"

  • jelly beans

[Read the article: Who can win the big states?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Even simpler:

You love cherry jelly beans; like strawberry ones, and hate licorice ones. You're offered a cherry and a strawberry; you pick cherry, of course. You're offered a strawberry and a licorice; you pick strawberry, of course.

  • more jelly beans

[Read the article: Who can win the big states?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    The real questions here are:

    - are there a significant number of people who only like cherry?

    - or are there a significant number of people who if denied cherry, will spitefully refuse any jelly beans?

    - or are there a significant number of people who favor licorice over strawberry, if they can't have cherry?

These are the things Clinton must be implying with her assertions, right?

  • manyctnj

[Read the article: Who can win the big states?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is there any polling or other data to show that Clinton won any Reagon democrats or more independents who are on the fence and would seriously consider McCain't? I would think Hillary is more likely to scare away any voters with even the slightest of Republican leanings.

  • So...
