sticks or beams in this case and stones
[Read the article: The Fix]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>>Ummm... i believe that the jews in power conspired to have Jesus arrested and killed, and to that end He was turned over to pontius pilate, then crucified. what was said, was said in the gospels. does that make mel gibson anti-semitic? does that make me anti-semitic? are all christians anti-semitic for believing the truth?
You might want to broaden your mind a little bit more bee before you start defending others.
For example- if you believe that the sacrifice on the cross is what redeems mankind from sin then isn't it possible that the so called 'Jews' who 'conspired' along with Pilate and Judas were enacting God's will, so where is the fault. No Judas, no Jews, no Pilate, no crucifixion, no redemption of man.
Truth? Want the truth; take a look for Bart D. Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus" or "Lost Christianities". Ehrman started off as a reborn Christian, became evangelical for a spell and went to several "approved" schools of 'right thinking Christians' like yourself. In the course of his studies learned Latin, Greek and other languages to read the "truth" as it was written. And to what avail did it come? He realized that the beloved book is littered with forgeries in some cases, that the Gospels were changed by scribes copying, sometimes by accident and sometimes intentionally. Not to mention the many varieties of early Christianity that were put down by what later evolved into the Church.
So before you start justifying Gibson's anti-semitism with words like truth and the gospels, pluck the beam out of your own eye.
And finally, the beloved cast no stone bit was added to John centuries later and the 'truth' that it was not in the original gospel is accepted by most biblical scholars.

the pieces of the puzzle
[Read the article: Scooter Libby's fuzzy-memory defense]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]George Santayana:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Learning requires memory and hence we can see why Bush and Co. keep making the same tactical mistakes, not that many care, because they have collective memory deficits.
Kind of reminds me of the Watergate era when Nixon cronies would saddle up to the microphone and say "I do not recall Senator."

Connecticut Primary Draws Fence-Sitters
[Read the article: Joe Lieberman's race-baiting attack ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/01/nyregion/01lieberman.html?ref=nyregion
The NYTimes reported today that 6,715 unaffiliated voters have registered as Democrats to vote in the primary. Both parties (Lamont and Lieberman) claim that it is good news.
I'm registered purely as a democrat so that I can vote in the primaries although I don't consider myself to be a democrat but an independent. Registering this way allows me a better chance, albeit slim, to see my preference make it to the general election.
My suspicion is that many of these, not all but many are similarly like-minded and this could be the watershed moment for Joe Lieberman, it might just be the end of the line.
It would be ironic that unaffiliated independents register as Democrats to see Joe off only to have him run as an independent.
I hope the people of CT. make Joe truly independent and unemployed to boot.

swift boat this
[Read the article: Will Bush and Gonzales get away with it?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What sickens me besides Cronin's being on the swift boat is the fact that Gonzales was confirmed as A.G., Joe Lieberman being one of those voting Aye.
So the Dems didn't have enough votes but this A.G. is by far the worst. Is the Bush administration's play book straight out of Argentina, Chile or Gilliam's "Brazil"?
I don't often pray but one thing I pray for is that these criminals, these lying theves get hoisted on their respective swords. They have broken so many laws and have so much contempt for "democracy", "freedom" and the rule of law that it just boggles my mind.
I've said it before, it almost makes me wish that the evangelicals are right about the apocalypse, I'm not any better than most but nothing would please me more than to see this group have their dear lord condemn them to the pits of hell.
They show absolutely no genuine and real concern for human rights on any imaginable level or Christian love and charity for that matter.

and the B.S. keeps on coming
[Read the article: AIPAC ruling a blow to press freedom]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In light of today's activity in London and the stopping of an alleged conspiracy to blow up airplanes one can only hope that NSA wiretaps of telephone calls and searching of bank records would be used to actually thwart terrorism.
Bush and Co. strain credibility that NSA wiretaps have been used purely for the reason of National Security, their naked political ambitions and greed not to mention grotesque fabrications have been so obviously demonstrated innumerable times i.e. WMD, ties of Al Queda to Saddam Hussein, Orange Alerts, there is no global warming and my personal favorite- ‘If you’re not with us, you’re against us’
The media (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, even the NYTimes, et al.) plays into this being more than just obliging but even to be nothing more than official branches of the propaganda machine, code for “winning the hearts and minds’ through disinformation.
This ‘win’ for Bush and Co. is just another example of the usurpation of our democracy for the few, rich and powerful. It is a blatant attempt to suppress dissent, freedom of the press, accountability, upholding of the Constitution, and the general rule of law.
If Bush and Co., including the bench were really that serious and honest then Bob Novak would be awaiting trial along with a slew of other criminals walking the corridors of power in the Beltway.
