    [Read the article: Domino diplomacy]

What is sad is that the domestic press either has its head in the sand or up its ass.

Listening to the BBC and interviews with diplomats and politicos from all stripes and it become painfully apparent that "Condi" is considered to be the "weakest" Secretary of State in 50 years. Not surprising since she is a pawn and player in an administration whose foreign policy initiatives have been lacking pre 9-11.

And with the death of 3 UN (the 4th missing and presumably blown to pieces) by Israeli air strikes and then the Israeli, oops we didn't know they were there despite being forewarned and cautioned during the day to cease bombing a known UN observation site that has been on that spot for over 20 years, is painted white with big letters saying U.N., “oh were sorry.... it was a mistake.”

Are you kidding me? It was obvious as a vehicle to show Israeli domination and arrogance towards world opinion, sans U.S.

The Neo-cons, and by the way con in this case should be translated hence as not being 'conservative' but as in confidence, as in con men, are using this as their vehicle for their apocalyptic world view of the end of days. As each day drags on I become further shocked that what is really driving US policy and its lack is right wing Christian fanaticism that sees unrest as the harbinger of the second coming and feeding this is another group of radical Islamicists thinking the same end days scenario with neither side realizing that they are two sides of a discredited and immoral human view.

It almost makes me wish for a ‘second coming’ just to clean the damn slate but realizing that is a pipe dream I would be satisfied for a first coming of rationality; sadly I will have to settle for most likely the same insanity for the remainder of my life. But then I never expected the wall to come down in Berlin so I will retain some small hope of faith in being surprised. But I won’t hold my breath.

Lieberman is a political hack who deserves the boot. His affiliation with Bennett, Robertson and his cozying up to others of the far right under the guise of "bipartisanship" only shows his true colors. Shocking is Bill Clinton coming to town after what Lieberman did for Bill during the Lewinsky debacle. Bill can't stand to be unloved, sorry bastard.

The Democrats ought to show Joe the door.

  • Does it matter?

[Read the article: Echoes of the Nixon era]

Bush acts above the rule of law already. The imperial presidency is upon us and the Democrats are dead. If Specter's FISA bill passes it's not that it has any weight anyway, a law, good or bad is only as effective as the application of it.

Bush has done more deserving of impeachment and censure than Bill Clinton did regarding constitutionality, not to mention international law. But the Republicans could care less and the Democrats are impotent.

Specter should be ashamed of himself but then that would require a sense of decency and I don't think there is a single politician of any political standing (both right and left) that does have decency, in fact I think it is an oxymoron the concept of "decent politician".

  • golly gee, surprise, surprise

[Read the article: Lawbreakers, paradigm shifters, opportunity scoffers and letter writers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Heck of a job Bushie. This isn't news, this is predictable and Bush & Co. have been demonstrative of this delusional mindset since day one or at the very least 9-11.

It can't be totally assigned to a paradigm shift either because for that premise to be operational would require a viewpoint that could shift and what is painfully obvious is that it is a lack of basic living in the real world, ie. reality- which is being run into over and over again. Unfortunately the world at large has to deal with our ignorance and might as we continuously bang our head against the wall.

Previous to Israel's attack on Lebanon there was uneasiness amongst some of our Arab allies (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan) with Hezbollah and the Lebanese were unhappy about their countries political strings being pulled by Damascus. Now what has happened in the course of a week with continuous Israeli bombardment of both military and non-military targets is sympathy for Hezbollah where it did not exist before and Lebanon needing Syria as an ally, when before it wanted to move away from Syrian sway.

All the bombing has done is pour gasoline on a fire and has the potential to unite disparate elements into a cohesive whole that really could ignite a regional war. What does the U.S. do? Say it is okay for Israel to defend itself.

I'm not suggesting any sympathy for Hezbollah as they took advantage of a situation for their own misbegotten gains. But when you have two and possibly three of the worlds major religions undergoing a fundamentalist revival with apocalyptic outcomes fighting over territories that in their respective 'holy' books is the place of the 'end', well rational (as in enlightened) discussion is moot, not to mention basic critical thinking.

Bush claims to talk to god, a Christian god at that. His party has embraced the religious right, their party loyalists call for more God, our God, this is a Christian country blather and what? You think that any religious Muslim who sees and reads what is in their respective press doesn't see this as a holy war.

It certainly seems to be becoming one.

But I suspect that this is really what Bush wants. There hasn't been any demonstrative press about this but I think we are being brought into a dangerous situation by our very own home grown religious fanatics who seem to be in control of our government.
