intellectual dishonesty continues
[Read the article: How Edward Said took intellectuals for a ride]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Reading some of these letters leads me to a disgust I cannot even begin to formulate into words.
The number of people here who lump Said into a Muslim apologist because it is inferred he was Muslim, WRONG, he was an Episcopalian CHRISTIAN. Read! Look into the written words beyond the cocktail bullshit talk that you feel compelled to spout as if you have some damn knowledge to prove.
ie.Bottom line, Edward Said legitimized the Arab Victim Cult which asserts that nearly everything broken culturally, socially, politically, economically in the Arab world is the fault of someone else, typically a westerner or non Muslim who is of course racist.
Read "From Oslo to Iraq and the Road Map" if you think he was blaming Israel or the Jews, he cast blame and derision against Arafat and others equally. Is it more comfortable to live in the tired world of what you think is real? That is intellectual dishonesty.
If it fits your little paradigm of the world in dismissing Said then nothing I or anyone else will say will make you take a moment to read the actual texts, not just "Orientalism" but the other books, essays and articles the man wrote. If it makes you feel more comfortable to dismiss a man and his life’s work then it speaks more for ones desire to wallow in ignorance of second hand inferred reference. You negate your own integrity and voice as having any real value.
and further this blanket dismissal of French literary and philosophical theory as
As is your freedom to do so. Nonetheless, once you start clattering on about French postmodern philosophers, and reality, in the same sentence, you really are navel gazing. One wonders how you found the time to clamber down off Mt. Olympus to lambast little me, though.
No, sorry but you are navel gazing at your own shadow of meaningless words. It becomes apparent the author of such quotations is full of their seniority. The world may appear to be black and white under such a worldview or lack thereof but reading, thinking and discussing such ideas may seem like navel gazing but I find it far more appropriate and meaningful than blanket dismissals of intellectual thought and discourse. I would far rather wade through discussions than take the righteousness and smugness born out of this kind of arrogance, especially one that apparently comes out of a complete lack of real experience, otherwise such glaring admissions of IGNORANCE would be left hidden out of embarrassment.

clarity
[Read the article: The waiting game]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is becoming clearer and clearer with each passing day that Bush will follow one course and that is his own, regardless of those who might be intercede on his behalf. The ISG report will be buried and forgotten, every speech since its release has been a sign of his inability or disinterest in 'other' opinion. He has a mandate, in his mind from 'God', and he will "stay the course" to prove to us and himself that 'God' is on his side. Sounds ludicrous but I believe it to be his "truth" as it were.

who would have guessed that...
[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dennis Prager listens to the BBC or NPR. More, I bet he actually spends time in front of the mirror watching himself prattle on and on as if his radio spot were videotaped like Howard Stern, Imus and other bozos.

AIPAC is bipartisan
[Read the article: The other Israel lobby]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]because it owns both political parties.
-
delusional
[Read the article: They'd surely say "thanks" if they could]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I find it increasingly harder and harder to believe how completely delusional Bush is, it is reminiscent of "The Madness of King George."
Sadam was no doubt pretty bad but our destabilizing the country and sending it into a civil war with no end in foreseeable sight and the guaranteed bloodshed to extremes that is and will be the result is hardly something to be thankful for.
Our 'intervention' was not the lesser of two evils.
-
credibility
[Read the article: Timing is everything]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Bush has lost so much support even from his own party that even this little 'bit' will be seen by many as being the boy crying wolf. From the Sears Tower b.s. to the well timed orange alerts, this doesn't wash and most will see it that way, at least I hope.

has been
[Read the article: Biden: I was taken out of context]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Biden has been a has been for years now, even before Clarence Thomas.
How short is the collective memory? Very short indeed, I can't be bothered with this bore at this point and am surprised that he hasn't realized his day long came and went. Yet we sit here wasting time weighing in on this democratic asshole's opinion on... anything?!?!?
He should have been voted out of office centuries ago, he is a middle of the road political hack out for nothing but his own hide. I would prefer a conservatice fascist who really believes in what they speak versus these McCain, BIden, Hillary twist in the wind con artists who care not a bit about anyone but their own respective and collective political hides. Burn them all.. they will be the collective death of all of us.

those worthless sob's want a culture war? Bring it on. This whole shit makes me sick and want to go all "Stalin" on their respective asses.

purge
[Read the article: Alberto Gonzales must go]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gonzales must go is a no brainer. But under chains to permanent isolation for his complete and willing sacrifice of the constitution.
It is high time the guillotine to be brought out from storage and used publicly for the dismissal of such types. They (Coulter and company) have been clamoring for same, it is about time we show the same willingness and desire for these traitorous scum.
