the new joe
[Read the article: Equality before God]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Pam you are out of your league.
This country was founded on several principles, one of those being separation of Church and State. The reason being our wise forefathers had in their not too distant historical memories the ravages of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation of their own ancestors. In fact many of our countries earliest immigrants to this new land left Europe because of the residue of religious intolerance there, I alone can trace my own to the original Dutch of the Hudson Valley of New York, the Puritans of Plymouth and to the "Quakers" of Pennsylvania, each group attempting to escape religious intolerance.
Defend your pastor if you must and need but he was and is a hypocrite espousing no Christian virtues that I can see. His brand of hypocrisy and bigotry has no place in this country and more importantly the DEMOCRACY that our forefathers took the brave steps to divorce themselves from tyranny.
Before you start saying foolish and downright stupid things about the white washing of history, READ MORE instead of the party line that confirms your tiny and small hold on reality. Our forefathers as a whole were not the white bread Christians you make them out to be and if you had taken the time and diligence to study such matters you would not make the errors of justification, wrong as they are to support your feeble and pathetic rational.
When you make such simple minded statements such as "As for voting, you can rest assured this Evangelical Christian will take my place in line and hope to keep the liberals out of office" you paint yourself as not being a Christian nor human.
You are nothing but a lapdog to a predigested and predetermined reality that made other Christians such as Martin Luther revolt against the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church. In fact you are no better than a blind papist and hence your views and your opinions to those who actually take it upon themselves to question the nature of God, the Spirit and the role of our place in this "divine comedy" of life, this country and the world at large are worthless, without merit and furthermore not worthy of future debate, discussion and time.
Martin Luther was excommunicated for your right to exercise your brain independent of brainwashing, start using it.

"enormous consequences"
[Read the article: Cheney: Damn the torpedoes (and the public, too)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"will determine whether this government (read- fascistic Republicans) remains firm and resolute in the war on terror (read- war on liberals, democracy, rule of law and anyone who happens to disagree with us who are in power), or falls into confusion, doubt, and indecision (read- what will happen to us, those in power should our inevitable creation of a new corporate fascist state get stopped in its tracks by the very populace we seek to dominate) ."

loss of power
[Read the article: A November surprise from within? Military newspapers say: Fire Rumsfeld]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I can foresee a day when this Republican administration strives one step too far in an attempt to forestall their losing of power, trying to declare martial law or some other type of grotesque abuse of Constitutional priviledge and forcing the military's hand.
A day when the military says no more Mr. Bush, no more Mr. Cheny and no more Mr. Rumsfelf. We are now in charge and in control. The day when the United States has its first military junta.
I hope that day does not come.

cleovi...
[Read the article: Haggard: Massage, meth but no gay sex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Go tell it on the mountain, the mountain of cash and hubris that has been built in Christ's name preaching hate, intolerance and ignorance.
Go to your church and stand up and say you are against the hate being fomented in your "perfect mans" image. We see the cry for tolerant Muslims, why not for tolerant Christians?
An examination of the religion that grew out Jesus' message of love thy neighbor shows one of intense hatred, war and sanctimonious holiness that does what good words, and suspect words as to what was really said in the first place, a disservice. My own research and reading into it has led me to wonder how the church, both Catholic and Protestant has any membership. How can one sit in a house of worship knowing it was built on terror, bloodshed and corruption at every imaginable level?
I don't gloat over Foley or over Haggard, I gloat over the veil of hypocrisy that lies over this country being slowly lifted and seeing the wizard isn't what he has pictured himself to be.
The problem for 'liberals' is that in general, we are tolerant of other peoples opinions even when we disagree, it is part of our humanistic and 'enlightened' view. In our world though are people masquerading as good christians yet preaching hate and frankly, I for one and no longer willing to turn the other cheek. Because the meek may inherit the earth but it will be six feet under.

[Read the article: A November surprise from within? Military newspapers say: Fire Rumsfeld]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, a very thoughtful response. However it doesn't quite soothe my darkest fears, which for the most part seem to be true. This country is run by a den of thieves and supported by a population that take pride in being ignorant.

hit the nail on the head
[Read the article: Will the real America please stand up?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For myself and many of my friends, we have felt exactly as if we've been living in some alternative universe for the last six years. I can't add anymore to this but an emphasis...
"The Democrats, so intimidated they have not even challenged the very idea of a "war on terror," bear as much blame as the American people do for allowing this to happen, and they have to understand why and make sure it doesn't happen again."
No truer words have been spoken, the Republicans win the propaganda on wimpy Democrats because they, the Dems have allowed their collective and individual spines to be ripped out time and time again and on every issue. They have failed us. If they win tonight, the first thing they should do is find their spines and unmask the charlatans running this country and its principles into the ground.
