  • map reading queen

What a bunch of nonsense! I am the navigator where ever we go, foreign or domestic. My husband, daughter and I travel extensively. She too, is a fine map reader. I have three sisters. We all are fine map readers. I have had one and only one experience in which my navigating in Ireland, using an Irish map brought us to a place where there should have been a road and there wasn't. In that case, the map was wrong, not I.

Women are demeaned by this kind of false science. What type of women were given maps? Were they non-drivers, inexperienced travelers, poorly educated or were they seasoned drivers and travelers. Was there a control group? What sort of maps were used. I could go on and on, but I'm sure my point is made. Has anyone done a study of men who refuse to use maps or ask directions? And then what would the headline be?

  • Clinton on "Meet the Press"

I carefully watched Clinton respond to Russert. My take on it is as follows: Russert was out to prove how tough he is (as usual) and Hillary Clinton took his attacks and turned them into thoughtful commnetary that made her look both presidential and in control. She was unflappable in the hailstorm of half truths. She made intelligent and well reasoned responses. She was charming and well prepared. She was believable and forthright. I found myself cheering her on as Russert just kept attacking while she kept trying to keep the dialogue truthful and on point. As I watched the New Hampshire results come in, I was joyous. Not because I'm an ardent Clintonite but because I am so sick and tired of the double standard the press keeps pushing. I am tired of the press saying she's not electatble, she is. That she's not strong enough,or prepared enough or has too much baggage: it's all garbage. Obama has a very thin resume. No one is talking about it. Clinton's is deeper and more nuanced. This is where the discussion should focus. She's a serious woman who is well prepared for a very serious job.
