slightly off-topic

But related, I guess to the annoying hordes of anonymice-why doesn't Salon have radio button up next to 'read all letter' and 'read only editors choice' that says 'read only signed' or 'read excluding anonymous'. I would click it every time.

and a fourth question

Will you be a good daddy?

wow Brightstar

I can't believe how rude Grubert was to post an anecdote about his grandparents that doesn't conform with your worldview. He must be wrong about his experience, is all I can figure!

Yes, move

But not to Colorado. You'd hate it here, really. All the other Californians who have moved here hate it too, they're going to Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the place to be!

To the Letter-writer

This is a really bad time to be thinking about selling a house, and an even worse time to be thinking about buying one. Even if the prices have gone down in your area, the description I have seen about buying right now is "catching a falling knife". Carey's idea about making the space you have now work for you better might be a really, really, good idea.

Please take a look through this blog

before you make that really big decision (that you pay for for 15 or 30 years).

Were those rent-a-cops or real deputies?

Because if they were REAL deputies, they could have arrested her for indecent exposure if she showed any boob while removing her bra! Hey now! Wouldn't that have been even more fun?

Nothing funny

I don't think it's funny at all, it's wrong. I think the reason that you don't see as much about it is this: It is wrong, illegal, stupid and low-class if I hit my husband. I don't and won't. But if I did, it really wouldn't make much impact on him or his health. If he hit me (even hit me back), I would likely end up with a broken nose or orbital blowout fracture. I haven't got the power to really hurt him, and he does have the power (literally) to put me in the hospital.

That's just my theory, brightstar, about why we hear more about m.v.f. domestic violence. It's kind of like car vs. bicycle. For all I know, bikes run into cars all the time. But when cars run into bikes, often someone is gravely injured or dies.

Parson

The article was about hitting. Not killing.

Brightstar-why in God's name would ANYONE want to have control of you? Ick!

ohh!

Per the first chicken anonymous, some people really hate it when Mormons are called Christians. I didn't know that! A new way to tick off the fundies, hurray!

Huh, that's weird

In my family, I am MUCH less likely to call in sick than my husband is. If I stretch in the morning and say, I don't want to go to work today, he says, Don't! Call in sick!

I think that's just a weird attitude. I say, honey, no one does my work when I'm gone, I will just have a harder time meeting deadlines if I stay home. He has called in sick for an entire week before. I would have to be in the hospital to do that!

I do work in an industry with a lot of women (health insurance in government), and not many men, so I guess I can't really say if there is a difference in absenteeism. The sample size isn't large enough for the males! But I sure would like to analyze the absenteeism for the organization as a whole, and see if there are statistically significant age or gender related differences in the use of sick leave.

Dang what a strange thread

It sounds like a thread of people untangling the complex mythology of the Lord of the Rings. And has about as much relevancy.

amdzone

Why are you so incoherent? Was there supposed to be a point in there? Or even more than one (often, people making more than one point, with supporting statements, will choose to put each point in its own paragraph).

Brightstar,

You do realize that being raped is not actually an expression of the victim's sexuality, don't you? Please, reality for ONE second, dropping the "I been wronged the wrongest" and just touch reality for the one second it would take to say, wow, that really sucks?

"I just stay as far away from women as possible."

Sean, about prosecutors

They never have any doubt that someone did something bad. They have lots of doubt than any evidence could be trumped up, or that jailhouse snitches could be lying, or that eyewitness identifications could be false. But doubt about someone, anyone's guilt? Never.

This has nothing to do with the facts of this case, just with the nature of prosecutors.

A prosecutor's lack of doubt about the facts have nothing to with actual, actionable evidence. Ever.
