Mike Pace
[Read the article: Accidental babies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, cuz Mike, we don't ALL think that behavior is immoral. If kids want to experiment with sex, or have sex with their boyfriends or girlfriends, that's okay with me. I don't look down on them or think that they are morally repugnant.
I taught my kid to wear a seatbelt. I taught my kid to wear a condom. Going without either is a bad idea with the possibility of bad consequences, but I don't think either driving or having sex are immoral.
Don't impose your (rather inane) morality on kids.
Moral: don't do things that will hurt someone (yes, of course sex can, so can driving, or not paying attention when you are walking).
Religious indoctrination: don't have sex yet, God doesn't like it.

I'd like to arrange my
[Read the article: A bicycle built for a better world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]life to be able to bike to work, but I live 30 miles away (my husband works 30 miles away in the other direction). If we manage to get jobs in the same place, it's still going to be Wyoming or Colorado. Which means a whole big chunk of the year, bicycling is really impractical (50 mph winds, 0 degree temps, ice and snow on the roads, and dark right after work). But if we lived in towns where we worked, we'd sure ride them in the summer!

"Nature's way of saying pay attention?"
[Read the article: The truth about cat and dog food]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]so it's NATURE who's adding melamine to wheat gluten? so who'd of thunk it?

so...
[Read the article: Large number of Americans favor violent attacks against civilians]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Only 34% admit to harboring some racist feelings? That particular poll shows that 66% of the American public are liars.

Nordic societies
[Read the article: Immigration's irresistible force]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Iceland can keep out people? Hey, amazing!!! And Norway? What poor country is it bordered by, again?
Ridiculous example. REALLY ridiculous.

Deering
[Read the article: I'm ashamed to be ashamed of my father]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm tired of hearing that "so many seniors grew up during the depression"! I think, not so much. The depression was from 1930 to 1939. This guy was of an age to be sent to the Vietnam war. He was born during WWII or very shortly thereafter (indeed, a baby boomer). My own father was born in 1937. He was 3 years old when it was over, and he is nearly 70. I think the clue here is WWII vets. We are losing them at what, 1,000 per day? They are the people who grew up or were young adults during the depression (people my 93 year old grandmother's age). So if we could just dump that cliche? They're sick, something is wrong with them, that is why they hoard and do other crazy things. Not because they grew up during some period or other in time (which the vast majority of them are too young to have experienced).

[Read the article: "Women's caravans" to the rescue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The most recent poster...I bet you are Brightstar! (who I suspect is neither)

To everyone who says dump her...
[Read the article: My wife was having an emotional affair for years behind my back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Isn't it a little more complicated than that? They are not "just" married, they are also partners in a business. They would have to dissolve that too. There's a lot of promotion money they have spent to become successful in their business, which is also at stake. I've seen a lot of people (where's Brighstar?) say that she will try to take him to the cleaners. People, they are BOTH trial attorneys. They will try to take each other to the cleaners, they will try to take the business 100%, they will try to win the daughter over to their side...I can't imagine an uglier divorce/dissolution of partnership.
I have no easy solution to offer here. But the simplistic ones being offered really aren't taking the full ramifications of their suggestions into account, either.

yep Uberbah
[Read the article: Female genital mutilation a growing problem in Britain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If we can't immediately take of what you consider a problem (I do too, my son is not circumsised) then we can't take care of or worry about anything! Just because this particular thing is much worse for women (girls), so what! Do nothing about anything till you can fix everything about everything.

ducklips
[Read the article: When Republicans attack]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You are correct, except, just as in movie sequels, the sequel is dumber.

Nell Cooper isn't an idiot
[Read the article: The deep delicious South]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]He/She is a whiner. A southern whiner, still a whiner. Sometimes it seems to us who aren't southerners, that you are looking to take offense at something, anything. And sometimes I think, you know, if we had just not bothered to respond when they seceded, then there would be another third world country out there between us and Mexico. And GWB could be the preznit of THAT country!

grammar and word usage! oh boy!
[Read the article: I hate buzzwords! It's not "carbon," it's "carbon dioxide"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And don't use "myself" when you mean "me". And don't flaunt your ignorance by using flout in that sentence. And mind your apostrophes (not you're apostrophe's).
We all should know better. It isn't that hard! It's almost like it's our native language, even.

anonymous
[Read the article: I hate buzzwords! It's not "carbon," it's "carbon dioxide"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not sure why you need to be "anonymous" when commenting on this terribly controversial subject, but of course, it is your choice.
However, on dissect, I see both pronunciations listed in every resource I consulted on the pronunciation. I looked because I have never heard it pronounced as you suggest, rather alway rhyming with bisect. Not even in college biology was the word ever pronounced with the first syllable similar to divide. Apparently, some decades ago, there was discussion over which was correct, and now both are acceptable.
I hope nobody is going to come for me, since I'm posting only semi-anonymously, under my user name.

Bush doesn't think
[Read the article: Bush was against a pay raise for the troops before he was for it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They're stupid and don't follow the debates. He thinks they're stupid and vote against their interests anyway. And he's right.
