UN monitors?

I guess maybe we do need UN montiors. How in the world can these problems still be happening? Does no one test this equipment before using it?

Here in my part of VA we've been using electronic voting machines for a long time. I have never experienced any problems. I assume the votes are tallied correctly, but I guess there is really no way to know for sure. Luckily for me it is a Dem stronghold, but if I was in a part of the state controlled by the other side I would be more leery.

!?

Too bad the people who created the war don't feel it very keenly.

desperation

I am astounded. Put the shoe on the other foot and "they always do this and push things as far as they can", but when the GOP does it there's no problem. Could they be any more desperate or any bigger hypocrites?

gee, that's very Christian

"I’m voting because of Rosie O’Donnell. No one pisses me off more than her. This gay stuff has gotta stop." How does their god put up with these people?

don't forget the absentees

Based on the results at this point it looks like we're probably going to have to wait for the absentee ballots to be counted. And however many provisionals there might be. Looking at the state's website though it looks like lots of votes yet to be counted in Northern VA in Prince William and Loudon especially as well as some in Fairfax and Arlington. That conservative chick who is running under the misleading "Independent Green" party banner might well be the difference.

Original article: A recount in Virginia?

absentee ballots?

and when do the absentee ballots get counted? The provisionals don't get looked at until starting at noon tomorrow. So it could be a while until we know who won. In counties with electronic machines a recount is basically meaningless since there's nothing to recount.

thanks

thanks for collecting all of this in one place for us. It really is jaw-dropping. I think it also represents the way about 50% of the American population thinks about a number of these things. And that is really scary.

ok, but

you claim his remarks are out of context, but what does he mean when he says "Americans look like Americans"? what the hell does an "American" look like, and how can you tell by looking? And how do they look any different than a Canadian, a Mexican, a Chinese person, some one from Africa, etc. Also, Iraqis looks like Iraqis... how do you tell that some one looks like an Iraqi? How are they different than an Iranian for example? Or a Syrian?

I get the gist of his remark that "those people" all look alike. How do you know by looking at some one if he's a Shiite or a Sunni? I assume most of the sectarian violence has little to do with how some one looks. It has to do with neighbors who know whether the people they are attacking belong to their "tribe" or not.

The problem with Lott's remarks is that they are very simplistic and don't seem to have really been thought through at all.

why does anyone stay Catholic?

These bishops are seriously nuts if they think this little document of theirs is at all "pastoral". I was raised a Catholic but dropped out when I got to adulthood and figured out that the Church didn't accept my sexual orientation. That and I figured out I was an atheist.

My parents remain Catholics. I often wonder why. And I wonder why any educated person who advocates human rights follows these bishops and this pope. As you say polls show that Catholics in America don't agree with church teachings on a number so topics. So why and how do they remain Catholic?

These same bishops sheltered their child molester priests forever (see Deliver Us From Evil) and yet they have the gall to tell gay Catholics that they are "disordered".

not Diebold

As much as we all may hate Diebold the machines in question were made by another company.

I am a little curious about this idea of a new election. Who would be allowed to vote? Only those who cast a ballot on Nov.7 or any registered voter in the county? Seems to me that with a margin that small and so many votes lost a new election is in order. Unless they can prove that the problem is the result of voter incompetence which seems unlikely since the undervote percentage in other counties was so much smaller.

mainly it's the drivers

I think the fact that the sport has lost so many of its big name racers from the 80's and 90's has been the biggest factor. And let's not call these drivers a bunch of southern rednecks. In fact the drivers come from all over the country and I would guess that many of them probably have pretty good educations under the belts and understand lots more about physics and mechanics than any of us ever will. The problem with all of these new guys is that they are very corporatized which makes them less colorful and more boring and interchangeable. And that decreases interest.

they're not bad people...

unlike their father. Jenna in particular seems to have matured past wild college party girl. She was teaching in an inner city DC school. And she was recently in South America helping out with a UNICEF program. I think Barbara has also been doing some humanitarian work.

I think this piece is fairly ridiculous for the War Room. They are independent adults. She had a cellphone stolen along with her purse just like hundreds if not thousands of others have had. She happens to be in BA at the time. So what? People travel.
