how much credibility?

How much credibility do the British police have? They murdered an innocent Brazilian last year on the subway and just a month or so ago they staged a major raid on what they alleged was a terror cell or bomb-making operation that turned out to be based on completely false intelligence. One man was shot and their home more or less destroyed by the cops.

If this really was an imminent plot to blow up planes, then bravo. But if all of this over the top security turns out to once again be based on crying wolf it's hard to see how people will keep putting up with the disruptions.

it doesn't seem quite so dire to me

I've been watching some of the games. Besides having to listen to the inanity that is Brent Musberger it hasn't seemed quite so awful to me. They have been making a big deal in the broadcasts about the limits that are being placed on the pitchers for their own safety. And the kids who are getting all the K's are the big kids who can throw 75 MPH. They are not throwing curveballs on every pitch. And the big kid from the "Saudi Arabia" team that had something like 17 K's in the 6 innings he was allowed to pitch certainly seemed to be smiling and having a good time. In fact most of the kids I have seen have been smiling after they make a good play and getting fired up in a 12 year old way after the end of an inning.

What I could do without is all of the coaches being mic'd up so we can hear their platitudes. I don't need to hear more coach-speak cliches. And the intro to each game is also fairly cheesy in that ESPN way that tries to make everything they televise into a life or death event. But the players haven't seemed to me to be a bunch of joyless, lifeless little automatons.

my results are so-so, but glad I did it

It is a shame that so many people have had so many negative experiences with LASIK.

I had my surgery done 7 years ago. Before having the procedure I consulted with my optometrist who knew my eyes pretty well after seeing him for several years. He suggested that I might be a good candidate and referred me to our local TLA office. I did quite a bit of research online in the meantime and I was fully aware of the risks and possible complications. The clinic did tests and mapped my corneas and came to the conclusion that I would be a good candidate. On the day of my surgery I went through and initialed and signed the lengthy consent form. After having done so much research I felt fully informed and I didn't feel like I was being pressured into anything by the staff.

My pre-LASIK vision was terrible. I wore contacts sometimes but mainly I wore my thick glasses. Without glasses or contacts I was basically blind; I could see colors and some shapes but I couldn't really "see". My vision immediately post-LASIK was miraculous. I was seeing 20/15 and all was crisp and clear. My follow up visits were all with my regular eye doctor, not with the LASIK clinic. I did have some starbursting and minor halo issues at first but they have subsided over time or I just got used to it. However, over the last few years my vision has declined to an extent. At my last exam it still registered as 20/20 or 20/30 but the "quality" of my vision is always a little fuzzy. And in low light situations my vision is definitely worse. But it is corrected with contacts or a small, light, thin pair of glasses that are a far cry from my old glasses. I asked my optometrist about an enhancement the last time I saw him and he advised against it mainly because my close vision is still so good he thought getting an enhancement for my distance vision would adversely affect. In my case I think LASIK really did change my life for the better. Obviously that doesn't help people who have had bad outcomes, but not everyone who has LASIK has major complications or problems afterwards.

talk about overexposure

I will be happy when this guy just goes away. He seems to have literally been interviewed by every TV show and publication in America this week.

I'm as gay as the next gay guy, but I can't figure out why some in the gay press like The Advocate have decided to lift this guy up as a role model. He does seem like a narcissitic egomaniac. I don't think he helps advance our cause with the rest of America.

talk about liberal rules for replacing candidates

Geez, Florida sure makes it easy to change who runs for office. Not only can the Republicans replace him with the nominee of their leadership's choosing, anybody who votes for Foley is actually voting for whoever the new person is since votes cast for him are counted for the new nominee of the party. Something about that just doesn't seem right to me.
