Aussie rules too

I am able to watch the Aussie Rules match of the week show in my neighborhood and they have their refs mic'd up too and you get to hear them explaining to the players what they're calling and what's happening. Then the guys in the booth are free to agree or not and further explain things. I think it's great. Maybe the Aussies are just way ahead of us here when it comes to sports broadcasting. They take their sports as seriously or moreso than we do here. They also use like 4 guys int eh booth for one game which may be too many, but they have a couple of guys who focus mainly on the pbp and then a couple of retired players or coaches to give "special comments" which are usually helpful. I think they are way better than the old jocks who end up as soccer commentators here in the US for example.

no charisma

The problem for Mark Warner is that he is not a very polished or dynamic speaker and he's got the charisma of a ham sandwich. He succeeded here in Virginia which is a very bizarre state what with it's one term limit on governors which really limits their power. The legislature has the real power. Warner did manage to get some moderate Republicans in the legislature to see the light which was shrewd. He might be good behind the scenes, but there's no way many people will vote for him for president.

what are they hiding?

Obviously these guys have some things to hide, probably in relation to the Abramoff scandal, and that's the reason why they are all up in arms over this. They don't want the FBI searching their offices and hauling them off to the pokey.

I was glad to see some of the top Dems over the weekend saying they didn't have a problem with this since the FBI has also searched the offices of judges over the years when they were being investigated. That seems about right to me.

The Dems need to throw Jefferson overboard instead of getting behind this ridiculous whining about separation of powers. Just because you're a member of congress doesn't mean you are exempt from the law. It's about time all of these corrupt guys get their comeuppance.

just what the world needs

Yes, of course baseball doesn't have enough stats already. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

made in 1961

If you read the description it tells you the film was made in 1961. Did everyone really overdress so much back then? Who wears a suit and bowtie to play basketball...why the murderous homosexual, that's who.

But seriously I'm not laughing. This sort of indoctrination is why so many people feared and hated gays for so long and it lingers mainly among the older population. Younger generations, especially those who know out gay people, realize that gays aren't boogeymen as portrayed in the film. But I agree with the other poster that if you change "homosexual" to "pedophile" this really isn't so far-fetched of a film. But I'm not sure that there is more pedophilia these days, I think you just hear about more and kids are more likely to report it than they were in the past.

DeLay

Huh? Here's a guy who is quitting and not even going through with the election because he's afraid of losing telling us that the Republicans will lose if they don't stop panicking. He's got no self-awareness at all.

good for Jon

I love Stewart and he really nails this issue. But he spent a lot of time talking over Bennett and not letting him get a word in edgewise. I think these segements work best when he lets these morons make their feeble points and then rip them apart. He seems a bit rude when he talks right over them instead.

espn is terrible

I love the fact that ESPN has the games all in HD. But between the completely idiotic announcers, and the example you cite is fairly mild, as well as the graphics splashed all over the screen so you can't see the game being played it's astounding that anyone is watching espn2 at all. It's as if they think its a gridiron football game or baseball with a stoppage after every play or pitch in which they can stick a graphic or a stat on the screen to annoy their viewers.

you're not really learning anything

Yes, I have been complaining about the graphics since the WC started. But I too am hooked on the HD pictures so I can't go back now.

Don't the Univision guys call Beckham "Spiceboy" not "Spiceman"? That would play off the "Spicegirl" thing better.

Balboa may know more about soccer than you, King, but I doubt you are really learning anything useful from the moronic things that come out of his mouth.

I thought it was funny during the Swiss-Ukraine match that JP and Harkes were still complaining about the referee giving out a record number of cautions and ejections the night before with one breath and then with the next they were complaining that the referee in the match they were watching wasn't giving out any. These people are truly idiots.

cars not bikes

Americans like cars not bikes. That in a nutshell is why most people don't care about bike racing.

I did watch over the last couple of years, but have not seen any of this year's Tour. Just too many other things going on. Overlapping with the World Cup probably didn't help either.

The best thing is Paul Sherwin and Phil Liggett. Something about a couple of Brits pronouncing all of those French places is fun.
