McCain

will they ask McCain about his many gaffes? I see he is going to be on George's Sunday show, do you think he will get asked about all his many contradictory statements? Or wil GS just suck up to him?

cosy suite

this cosy suite thing looks kind of interesting. I like how it has a padded side you can lean your head against. And the idea that you can recline without having to disturb the person behind you is brilliant. But I also don't see how the window passenger would have an easier time getting out. The row in front will be shaped the same so it will still have that staggered configuration. I agree that with all the smart people out there and all of the new sturdy, light materials out there these days it should be quite easy to make better seats. I guess the bottom line is that the airlines don't give a crap about the people stuck in economy class. All they care about is shareholders and paying their executives as much as possible.

My biggest beef is that the headrest forces your head forward. I am totally unable to sleep on airplanes because there is no neck support on the seats. Even business class seats are not easy for me to sleep in because the ones I have flown do not lie horizontal. I am excited to be flying Virgin Atlantic soon because they have what appears to be the most comfortable business class seat.

And because I am short (about 5'6) I usually get a sore lower back because my feet don't reach the floor comfortably. So some sort of leg rest would be a huge plus.

relevance?

of course this also points out yet again that the media is focused on these ludicrous non-issues rather than what is truly important.

it's amazing how screwed up this country is. we get what we deserve.

Flyers 2nd goal

I don't see how the NHL can possibly want a goal like the Flyers 2nd to be a legal play. How is that, if not goaltender interference then at least regular old interference? The puck was nowhere nearby. You can't just bowl a guy into his goalkeeper so your teammate has a wide open net to shoot at. Those two "veteran" referees really screwed the pooch on that one. In the immortal words of Jim Schoenfeld, "Go have another donut!"

history repeating...

Wow, this is very interesting.

I read an interesting interview today with one of Warren Buffet's original partners who is now retired in Singapore. He says he is taking his money out of dollars as fast as he can. He thinks Greenspan and Bernanke have more or less destroyed the Fed and that it will collapse soon as a result of their bad policies. That coupled with our massive foreign debts ($13 trillion?) will cause some major economic hurt. I think this whole thing is going to way worse than anyone imagines.

Today we have terrible housing news yet again, but the stock market goes up. I guess I just don't understand the economy.

The world has a lot of problems. But all we care about in this country is whether you wear a flag on your lapel or have a funny name. We get what we deserve.

not a bad thing

Put me in the camp who doesn't agree that this is necessarily bad for Obama in the long run. The more Wright gets out in the media the more self-centered he seems to be. And I think the more people realize that his views are not the same as Obama's. People will continue to ask why he doesn't completely condemn Wright, but I think he answered that one in the Philadelphia speech. He's known the guy a long time and while Wright says some incendiary things they are not part of his every week sermons. And he has done a lot of great things for needy people. So, while the media prefer to focus on his outlandish statements, he's got a body of work that is a much better reflection of him. I think it is admirable that Obama stands by his somewhat flawed FORMER pastor while disavowing his more extreme statements. The more people focus on Wright himself I think there is a sort of distance created between him and Obama in people's minds.

We're all doomed anyway once the economy collapses. No President will be able to save it. So perhaps McCain's ultimate legacy can be that he presided over the collapse of the United States and we can be rid of the Republicans once and for all.

this is important...

why? Who cares when he started running? Did Bill Clinton start running for President when he "met" JFK?

Original article: In defense of Lou Dobbs

more like a columnist

I see Dobbs as more like a columnist or pundit than a journalist.

Are they going after Limbaugh and all the rest too, or just Dobbs? Last time I checked it wasn't unconstitutional to be against illegal immigration. Now, what Lou is advocating might be pretty misguided and lead to lots of unintended consequences. But there's nothing illegal about that.

They are just handing Dobbs one more thing to get outraged over and to rally his viewers around him.

all those Buddhas

After spending time vacationing in SE Asia the last couple of years I have seen a whole lotta Buddhas. It is interesting how each country/kingdom has its own relatively distinct style. Of course Thai Buddhas look Thai, Cambodian Buddhas have longer earlobes, Burmese Buddhas tend to be more colorful. Since all of these places practice Theravada Buddhism for the most part they all have similar styles with some differences. They also come in a variety of poses each with a different meaning/teaching or representing a different day of the week. At Chinese temples in Thailand you will see more of the fat, smiling statues.
