it does seem a bit odd that the media is all over this story of Hillary raising $6 or 7 million and touting it as an amazing achievement. And yet Obama raised even more money and it is treated like a footnote. For example just now on the BBC news Jay Carney from Time made sure to mention Hillary's big haul and then didn't even mention that Obama raised more during the same time period.
I guess that Clinton-hating media just wants the battle to continue as long as possible.
I think one of the big problems with this idea, other than the inherent unfairness it creates in the schedule, is that just because it is the EPL does not guarantee that it's going to be an attraction unless it happens to involve ManU, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal. Whoever is "lucky" enough to get the big name clubs will sell it out and people will want to go see those teams play. Can you imagine Liverpool v Man City in Bangkok? They could fill a 500K seat stadium for that match if such a place existed. But who, in any country, is going to show up to see Birmingham play Portsmouth? Or Blackburn play Derby? Those matches involving the middling or worse teams are unlikely to draw many people.
I also agree that there is a competitive imbalance in the EPL with no salary cap. However, there are always European places up for grabs for finishing in the top 5 or 6 or whatever it is. So even if your team isn't going to win the Premiership at least you have a chance at qualifying for next year's Euro competitions if you have a good season.
I have long thought that American sports are not truly fair competitions for the reasons King has noted. I think a lot of the die-hard MLS fans are really hoping for the day when there are enough teams in the league to go to a single table format where every team plays the others home and away instead of the imbalanced schedule that exists now. But even MLS is not as unfair as all the other pro and big college sports are.
some one can correct me if I am wrong, but I think he does actually answer questions (from voters, not Tim Russert) at many of his appearances. I know I saw video from his event in Alexandria the other day where he was taking questions from the crowd.
my guess is that, yes, he probably does prefer to give speeches. She would too if she were winning.
do you suppose Uncle Dick is sitting in his aerie plotting to blow something up so he can blame it in the Dems refusal to railroaded into passing this law? Or is that just too cynical?
Who saw Bush's interview with Matt Fry on BBC last night. He sure was churlish. Does he really believe the things he says? This notion that America still has the high ground because we believe in human rights and liberty... It was a fairly astonishing performance. He really came across like a jerk.
If this is the best she can come up with to criticize him then I would say she is toast.
now please send this to all of those ridiculous pundits and the HRC campaign who made a big deal out this issue.
Maybe he really doesn't remember. He is pretty old after all.
I am a bit surprised that the Obama folks reacted so defensively to this. They could easily have taken the high road here.
This seems like one of those weird "summit" photo ops where all of the leaders gather for a group photo wearing "traditional" costumes of whatever country they happen to be in. They all always look so uncomfortable and silly.
too bad the Obama store can't keep logo'd merchandise in stock so his supporters could spread the brand. Lots of people grousing that their orders from months ago haven't been filled yet.
I guess if you're a billionaire you will be just fine. perhaps Mr. Zell needs to hang out with some poor people to see how bad the economy is.
actually I think this a very useful piece. And it points out the exact way in which Obama should address this non-isssue issue. He should embrace his name and explain (in much less detail) what Juan is talking about here. Direct confrontation is all the right wing crazies respond to. Stand up to the bullies and you remove whatever power they may have.
You'd think in the current cost-cutting environment that the airlines would be trying to figure out ways to reduce the amount of stuff and trash onboard to save some money if for no other reason.
how much weight does all of the glassware and heavy cutlery for the people sitting up front add to the flight? Thai Airways gives you about 16 pieces of heavy metal cutlery at every meal.
And how about using the tiny 6 or 8 oz. beverage cans and just giving each passenger his own can instead of pouring it into a cup as Patrick recommends.
I think some creativity could save a lot.
Personally I find SNL's pro-Clinton cheerleading to be a bit baffling. But I thought she did fine in her appearance. Her comic timing was quite good.
I would be interested to know what the methodology was for this poll. Did they take into account all of these young first time voters who are supporting Obama? How many of the "cult" members are going to be fired up enough to vote for Hillary or anyone else if Obama isn't the nominee?
Personally I would hold my nose and vote for her if I had to. But I hope I don't have to.
