  • 30 minute games!

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Isn't it a sad commentary that it takes 3 hours to play a game and yet there's only 30 minutes worth of action that can be distilled into a half hour show? Man, that's an awful lot of dead time.

The idea does remind me somewhat of the Aussie Rules Football highlights show that they have on Fox Soccer Channel. The match of the round is shown as basically extended highlights for the first hour and then highlights from all the rest of the games in the round.

  • Send them to Europe

    [Read the article: Idiot boxers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Maybe some one should send Ted Stevens and Brent Bozell to Europe. Then maybe they wouldn't complain about what's on US TV. We have the most puritanical TV in the Western World already.

The rightwingers complain about the Liberal "nanny state" all the time, yet here they are trying to be the ultimate nannies. It's just like the Justice Department's attmepts to control porn. There seems to be a huge diconnect between the fact that porn is such a huge business and money-making industry and their notion that it goes against community standards. Who do they think is buying all of th=is stuff. There's a parallel there to Bozell's question about who wants to see disturbing themes on TV shows...apparently all of the people who make the CSI and L&O shows such huge ratings hits do. It drives the puritans crazy that they are such a small minority.

  • Did we see the same film?

    [Read the article: "Transamerica"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm not sure I saw the same Transamerica as this reviewer did. I thought the performances of both leads were quite good. And the only people who really seem to have a porblem with Bree are the people in her own family, especially her mother who is a bit of a characiture. But almost everyone else in the film, no matter where they happen to be living, accept Bree as a woman. They even meet a group of transexuals in Dallas of all places in one of the important scenes in the film.

And a minor point, the boy grew up in Kentucky, not Oklahoma. It's little facts like that that lead me to believe the reviewer wasn't really paying attention.

The only problem I had was with the improbably resolution to the main conflict in the story. Otherwise I found this to be a delightful and interesting film that is definitely worth seeing.

  • actually...

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If by some other major stroke of luck Washington beats Seattle and goes on to play the Bears they will not play 3 teams in the playoffs that they beat in the regular season as they lost to TB in the regular season meeting.

And Theisman's rant was actually equaled by his partner Mike Patrick who seemed to be even more upset about the incident that Joe was. I usually like Mike Patrick, but he was way off base there. I figured the guy probably said something totally beyond the pale which was the reason for his penalty. Spitting made even more sense. When the ref is literally standing right there and is a guy who seems to be an excellent ref I would think the broadcast morons would have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

  • George Allen??

[Read the article: Right-wing party animals]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As a Virginia resident I have had to live through George Allen as governor and now a term as Senator. If he becomes President I will have to leave the country for good. He's such a smarmy dullard I can't stand him or his Howdy-Doody face. Maybe his tobacco chewing will catch up to him in time.

  • I almost feel sorry for NBC

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

NBC's hype machine is really going down in flames. First Michelle Kwan, then Miller and Rahlves doing nothing in the downhill, and Ohno stumbling out of the 1500 in the semis. Only the snowboarding kid survived his glowing coverage. Between all of Bode Miller's pre-Olympic hype and then his stupid Nike commericals I can't imagine very many people hoping he would win other than the people at NBC and NIKE who invested so much in him.

Why in the world can't NBC show these events live while they are happening like they do everywhere else in the world? Instead of showing NASCAR qualifying all afternoon they could have been showing us live Olympic events. When we can read about the results online as they happen it seems like the least our braodcaster can do is show it to us. It is nice to see the women's hockey live, but that is the only thing we have been shown live so far.

  • that is a cheap shot

[Read the article: Hume: Cheney said he had "a beer" on the day of the hunt]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I agree. I hate this administration as much as anybody. But the fact that Dick was caught drunk driving over 40 years ago doesn't mean he was drunk Saturday. I think Salon ought to be above implying such a thing.

  • follow the money

[Read the article: Bush threatens veto -- his first -- over port deal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

According to our local Fox affiliate, the guy who Bush just appointed to oversee all US ports just happens to be a former officer of the Dubai company we're selling all the ports to! Why am I not surprised by that?

  • Mike Emerick is over

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have to disagree on "Doc" Emerick. I used to really like him. But watching the women's hockey bronze and gold games the other day I wanted to shoot him. He's such a know-it-all, and he keeps repeating the same little saccharine factoids over and over. Just do the play-by-play already!

  • spineless

[Read the article: Democrats run and hide -- literally -- from censure resolution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am a lifelong Democrat. All of those spineless Dems in Congress are going to get what they deserve. It's no wonder that no one takes any of them seriously. They don't stand for anything. Disgusting.

  • TIME OUT!

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm with you King on the timeout thing. But I think there's actually a better solution. How about limiting teams to maybe 2 TOs per half instead of the current 851? Make the timeout precious and the players wouldn't be so fast to spend them all willy nilly. Between all of the "TV timeouts" and the other hundred or so they get now it makes the last 2 minutes of a game take what feels like 6 hours to complete.
