In a perfect world China’s recycling plants would be environmentally friendly, but….
And will the West be expected to respect those intellectual property rights?
Turbulence is interesting but what about Continental landing on a Newark taxiway and Alaska taking off on the wrong SeaTac runway?
I doubt neuroeconomics will have any more practical application than many of the ongoing studies of the brain. The biggest benefit might be the disappearance of thousands of caged animals with electrodes and wires sticking out of their heads.
NIMBY
This lady can help herself by becoming chummy with folks suffering end stage maladies related to smoking.
Pounding the pavement in the good old days – what a strange article. There is no such thing as a “nearly shockproof” running shoe; everything gets squished over the marathon distance. Would a real hard core runner drop a marathon for a “knee problem?” And, would America enjoy watching marathons limited to throngs of anorexic looking, emaciated bodies pounding the pavement?
It’s kinda of funny thinking about foodstuffs on an airplane. I made a few trips in the 80’s and 90’s and came to expect something to eat even on short hauls between Portland and SF. I ate stuff because it was there not because I needed it. In terms of U.S. citizens being the most overfed creatures on the planet, going without food for a few hours of a day is not only acceptable, but necessary.
Traveling by bus In the 50’s got us stops to eat at where we left the mess. And, I don’t remember being offered much, if anything, to eat on coastal trips on Convairs, Martin Liners, or DC’s (maybe it was offered but wooziness overcame appetite).
Food at the terminal, food in the plane – stuffed to the gills. Maybe, just maybe, some airline can exercise the conservatives’ mantra, “the market place”, and offer good discounts for a planeload of very well fed travelers.
I read somewhere that household debt includes small business expenses. If true, what else comprises the household figure?
At the risk of suffering the slings and arrows of the preferred provider coverage crowd, I will mention that the HMO I belong to implemented a system many years ago that allows me to email my primary care physician and most of the specialists I’m referred to. Additionally, all the clinical settings in the HMO’s area are equipped to access my complete medical record as well as my various scans.
