  • english as the official language

[Read the article: One nation, not just speaking English]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Nobody is suggesting that you ONLY learn to speak English; in fact, learning other languages is a plus. But clearly, because we are a nation of many backgrounds, English is the thread that binds us all together. I am for English as the official language, not because it is a "better" language, but because it allows us to communicate as an American family. AND, when I go abroad, I make my best attempt at speaking the language of the nation I am visiting. It just makes sense. Imagine if members of your family didn't speak the same language that you do-- imagine if there was an emergency what a mess that would be. Nothing xenophobic here, just common sense.

Obama didn't say learn another language for its own merit, he suggested to specifically learn Spanish. There's a big difference.

  • my experience

Swap genders, and I am the LW. I did what Cary told the LW to do, so here's the short version of the story, and how it played out: Tom and I loved each other (there are different types of love, of course), but I felt him slipping away; I thought it was a phase he was going through, so I backed off, telling him that I would wait for him while he figured his life out. He had already met Kimberly (and had romantic feelings for her, unbeknownst to me), and was looking forward to exploring a new relationship with her instead of the old bat (me, at 30). PLUS, she was a gymnast-- just THINK of the possibilities... But, I digress. OK, he and she fall in love, travel, and plan marriage. I wait, and stay true to him (pathetic, I now know.) Two years pass, and I sadly move on with my life, but I heal. Five years pass. Kimberly takes Tom to the cleaners financially and emotionally. Tom visits my brother in law during this time, and I'm in the house. He then sadly tells me he still loves me. I'm empty, and feel nothing but sorry for this poor man. I'm whole again, and he's shattered.

So, speaking from experience, here's what I would do differently. Once you feel her slipping away, muster all your acting skills, and tell her that you see the writing on the wall, and that you are leaving. Wish her well, and get your stuff and LEAVE. Do not show how shattered you are, because you will appear pathetic. I lost my dignity and respect with the way I acted, so please spare yourself that. She'll be back one day, and then you can decide whether you want her back or not. If enough time passes for you to get past the hurt, I'll wager you won't want her back. Just a guess.

Sorry, but Toby Keith is a Democrat, and he won't be endorsing McCain. He never said he supported the war in Iraq, but he does support our troops. He did, however, support going after Bin Laden, and putting a boot up his bootie.

  • National Enquirer

[Read the article: More dirt on Palin on the way?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I used to watch Nightline with Ted Koppel; his guest one evening was a big dog from the Enquirer-- I can't remember his name. But, what I do remember is what this man said: Under his management, the Enquirer would continue to print the gossip, but that he was going to make absolutely sure that the stories were accurate. He also said that the mainstream media, along with Fox news, often contacts them. Remember, the NE pays for information.

So, call it a trash rag if you will. My major concern is that somebody, somewhere will get the truth out, and since the mainstream media has let us down, I guess it's up to the Enquirer to dig up Palin's dirt, and let the country know just what type of person we are really dealing with.

  • Here's the real talking point:

[Read the article: Her deadly wolf program]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The real talking point is this: Twice, TWICE, the people of Alaska (very pro-hunting) voted to ban the aerial gunning of wolves. Palin disregarded the will of the people-- now, how can her advocates make excuses for that?

She is a real sick-o, folks. Get used to it.
